I know we have debated this before but MPs could be discussing this as early as next week. It will be interesting to see if here on AB, we split into our normal right/left fashion !

When I lived in a village in the Cotswolds, a neighbour who was a grandfather, was enjoying a peaceful afternoon in his garden with his 5 and 6 year old grandson and granddaughter, when they were 'legally' invaded by hounds, horses and riders, and the poor fox was set upon among his much loved garden flower beds, and ripped to shreds by the dogs in front of his and the children's eyes.
He was later sent a cheque for 'any damages'. He protested to no avail that nothing could compensate for the damage done to his grandchildren's terror at witnessing this savagery.
I sent a letter to Tony Banks MP (RIP) who was fighting at that time to bring in the current legislation.

I have this vision of horses with riders in red coats hallooing down our Close
with a pack of dogs pursuing the foxes nearby. Cars and vans parked both sides of the road, and sometimes on the pavement may impede them.

The suggestion is that England and Wales should adopt the practice in Scotland. Since all are still allowing this pastime, and Scotland's rules are the least civilised, surely the first step should be to align Scotland with England and Wales first, in anticipation of doing a proper job of banning animal abuse as a leisure activity in the near future ?

My major issue with foxhunters (apart from the mindless barbarity of what they do, which can be taken as read) is their mealy-mouthed excuse that it's an 'efficient way to keep the fox population down ...' when it is clearly anything but!

I would never agree with the hunting lobby, but I would have more respect for them if they were honest about their need to chase living creatures to exhaustion and death because they enjoy doing it, rather than some non-existent side-issue that this somehow benefits the countryside, which is clearly nonsense, due to the rampant inefficiency of the method.

As we now have ample evidence that foxes are being bred so that they can hunted, the central and only reason why people need to hunt them with dogs has collapsed.

If they want to dress up and ride around the country, dressed up like a Victorian Xmas card, they can go ahead and do it for all I care. But to pretend that its an efficient way to keep the fox population down just doesn't cut it any more.

Why do these country folk have to kill things for enjoyment ? I go out in the country as often as I can manage it, and have a good walk, and a Pub lunch.
Willy and I have a lovely time and we don't feel the need to kill anything.

But the hunting and shooting brigade count a day as wasted if they haven't killed something. What odd people !

Eddie your comment on the anti hunt protesters now 'having nothing to do' and losing their social life is hilarious! There is almost more work now than there was before the ban, monitoring the Hunt (when you can get near enough) and some very brave people actually infiltrating the Hunt as riders (mobile phones are now a godsend for recording things happening that should not be happening). Real country people either hate the Hunt because it disrupts their livestock and fences or have a 'could not care a less its for Toffs anyway' attitude. Drag hunting has always gone on without the need to kill anything and I've never heard of an 'accidental killing' at a drag hunt,yet these 'accidents' keep on happening now in the traditional hunts 'jolly hacks out'.

I don't know what your definition of 'breeding' is. Humans cannot reproduce foxes, they do that themselves and require no 'encouragement'! But giving food to foxes in a defined area is saving the parent from having to nurture their young and allows them to successfully produce more surviving offspring.
