The arrested and charged man will have a trial before a jury of his peers.
That is the right of every person charged with a crime like this and is enshrined in statute.
That is what I think he will get.
Assuming he is found guilty, I doubt very much that he will be put away for more than 5 years after all the reductions are taken into account. I can see many excusers already coming out on here.

Whoever did this, the man in the dock or someone else, needs to be locked away for life given we cannot do what should be done.
What is it about cars that can turn perfectly rational people into totally irrational people?

Obviously this case is beyond irrational but I just wonder would he have been capable of stabbing someone if road rage wasn't an aspect.
It has happened over supermarket trolleys too ummmm
Very true and by people that would otherwise behave in a civilised manner.

I predict he'll get a parade.
Lawyers, psychiatrists, counsellors, family, friends, local shopkeeper, former teacher all lining up to say how out of character this was, lovely man, kind to animals, good to his mum etc.

Except.........
I don't think he'll get off lightly.
agchristie - //Not being pedantic by the way Andy. If he didn't put the knife in the car then that casts doubt on the predisposition towards violence. We don't know how it got there or how long it had been in the vehicle or who it belonged to. Of course, he knew of its existence because he is alleged to have used it. //

You seem to be talking yourself out of your own argument there!

Let's say for the sake of argument that I got in my wife's car and found that there was a knife there - for reasons yet to be determined - and when driving it, I pranged another car. I still can't envisage a circumstance where I would pick it up, get out of the car, confront the other driver, and kill him with it!
If guilty, I hope you are right ummmm.
No, well you are clearly normal then Andy.

Thanks!

I am astonished at the waffle that is being spouted on this forum. Here are the actual facts: An elderly apparently harmless gentleman accidentally ran into the rear of a younger man's car, he was then set upon & savagely knifed to death. What more do you need to know ? The attacker was then arrested & the facts have produced a string of excuses for his abnormal behaviour. I don't really care if he was abused as a wee child or his mother wouldn't give him his favourite sweeties. This was an unprovoked vicious killing & I still maintain that he should be removed from his breath & society.

Double assumptions here Ron - one you assume that the killing was unprovoked - with no evidence to back up your statement, and two, you assume that an abusive / deprived childhood is not an explanation (as opposed to an excuse) for deviant behaviour in adulthood.

You're not a court judge are you?

I sincerely hope not!!!
Well said Whiskey

I don't think it's drivel / I have no idea / yes it does.

// Lets see whos right and whos wrong ...again...GUILTY //

I have never said the accused is not guilty, or indeed guilty - because has hasn't been to trial yet.

As far as your GUILTY observation - I respond with - Innocent until proven guilty.
This was an unprovoked vicious killing

The crash provoked the killing, Whiskery.

Like Ron, you are making observations which have no basis in fact - at least as far as we know to date.

We have no idea what caused this man to kill his victim.
Don't be silly...
Talbot - //Don't be silly... //

If that response is to my point, you will need to supply a little more info please - is the response to me - and if so, why do you think I am being 'silly'?
//We have no idea what caused this man to kill his victim.//

Yes we do, the man, this one or another, is clearly deranged.

I have to go with WR, once we get a guilty verdict on someone. This is a particularly vicious and nasty attack 'provoked' or not.
