Uzbekistan Airways to weigh passengers...

Fattist? or a sensible tactic, bearing in mind overloading caused by underestimation of average weights has caused accidents in the past....

Fatist, as if a few overweight passengers makes a huge difference to the weight of a plane. If it does the airline do not follow safe procedures and are near the limit of safety to start with.
Well, that's tricky. Personal freedom v. safety!

I suppose it depends on the limits they set. Luggage is weighed of course and there must be an allowance for passenger body weight. Problems arise if someone weighing, say 20 stones, arrives - but so do half-a-dozen 3-yr-olds. (Never used so many hyphens.)

To a certain extent it is sensible to have a safe limit to what the aircraft can carry safely. My mind boggles at the complications which could arise, but on the whole I would agree with standing on some scales (having shed my shoes and coat, bribed the weigher etc.!)
I'm not overweight, but I've been weighed before boarding light aircraft. If it's a safety issue I don't see the problem.
Uzbekistan Airways are not exactly in the vanguard of safety conscious airlines, to put it mildly
As og says, if they are trying this on, it probably suggests some serious failings elsewhere
Fat people should be charged more. They 'steal' other peoples seats by squashing them and dont seem to care.

My daughter was charged for 1 kg overweight luggage, yet she is a waif. Right behind her was a big tubby g*t. How is that fair?
Each seat could be fitted with a measure, overweight could then be heaved off the plane.

'Fat' people can be 'invited' to buy an extra seat when they book to sit in the 'small cram em in for profit not for comfort' seats
Otherwise, if it was as easy as lopping off an arm or a leg for everyone else's comfort just as easily as dumping your unnecessary underwear from your suitcase then I am sure Ryanair and Uzbekistan airways would be not too happy to oblige :-)
Personally I think people should be charged on a sliding scale "by the kilogram" for aircraft tickets.

Not only would it be more equitable, it would also act as an incentive to achieve a healthy weight. A minimum charge could be set to prevent incitement to anorexia.
Anorexia is a mental condition. You won't develop to get cheap flights!
Sorry ummm, I wasn't very clear - you're quite right of course, but surely anorexics try to self-justify their condition and I wouldn't want to give them another string to that bow.

Dive buddy, you actually watched that programme?
If Katie Ruled The World"

Good job the ugly cow doesn't rule the world then.
I'm on the fence. Overweight people don't set out to be overweight and this could just be another humiliation.

I also understand that my suitcase has to weigh the same as someone 10 stone heavier than me, that doesn't make sense either.

It's easy to judge when you're slim.

They don`t make it very clear whether this is going to be a permanent thing or whether they are doing it for flight audit purposes.

Someone told me, You're fattist.

I said no, you're fattest!
What is it with all these new isms. I'm bald, and as a result the butt of many a jest - yet baldness is more difficult to control/avoid than being fat, so shouldn't I be able to complain about baldist people ?
All the slapheads are allowed to complain about baldism. It's disgusting !
