And The Rich Get Richer Under "austerity"
No doubt our Rightie contributors will see this as Leftie propaganda.

"We've seen executive salaries pulling right away from the rest of society, creating this small elite of people that are just paid astronomically."

> We are now well into the 6th year of Tory or Tory-led rule, and the gap between rich and poor is growing
And that didn't happen under Labour! Oh wait ...

That's a report from the same BBC that paid Jonathan Ross £6M per year! Don't they also have a problem in competing for "top talent"?
Most observers realise there's a problem with high pay for certain people who don't deserve it. But other people do deserve it. It's not really a Government issue, unless you're talking about public sector pay - e.g. some civil servants being paid more than the PM ...

not entirely sure what the OP is expecting as a "solution" to the perceived inequality being highlighted. the previous administration were not prepared to, and this administration are probably even less likely.
if this issue is really as pressing as suggested, why were the labour party not elected not 3 months ago?

Hi svjek- I agree it is still growing but I think it's always been there.
I think the gap was previously between those with inherited wealth (landowners) or a few very senior people (captains of industry) and the rest of us who were either poor or lower middle class (factory workers to teachers/nurses/office workers) but there has beena huge growth in middle class professions (solicitors, share dealers) and a few who have become rich from 'talents' in sport, entertainment, investing and setting up or leading successful businesses.

Don't worry about it Canary. When Corbyn gets to be Prime Minister he'll take everyone down to the lowest common denominator.
I hate the super rich. How can anybody need all that money then want more by avoiding tax, and the most obnoxious word in the English language mis 'Billionaire as far as I'm m concerned.

And Mickey blames the Tories for a Global phenomenon. Oh well.
There is no real problem here, the players are paid the market price, which in companies like this are driven globally. If the UK Execs were not paid correctly the good ones would simply go wherever in the world they could command a good price. At this level you are not tied to a country.
Politics of envy just about sums it up.

What I find amazing about this kind of argument, is that when Alistair Darling and the Labour Party did its bit to save our banking system from certain collapse, during a worldwide banking disaster, "it was Labour's fault"
But when the Tories try to do the same, its someone else's fault, because it is a "Global phenomenon"

Linda, //I hate the super rich.//
I don’t. They have no effect on me whatsoever.
All this moaning is just sour grapes from people who think they want socialism/communism to rule but in reality have no idea what life for them would really be like if their wishes were realised. I can assure them right now they wouldn't like it - which is why all such regimes eventually collapse. Quite simply they don't work.
