You really are clutching at straws now, Andy. You don't have to be somewhere to know a bit about it.
Svejk - "You don't have to be somewhere to know a bit about it."

No, lacking personal experience of somewhere does allow you to make sweeping unfounded statements that's true - but it hardly adds validity to the point being made does it?
I haven't been to Syria but I wouldn't want to visit there either.
/// What year(s) did you attend? ///

/// Did you witness any or all of the above? ///

Just another two simple questions which again requiring two simply answers.

(just teasing Andy :0))
Svejk - "I haven't been to Syria but I wouldn't want to visit there either."

I think it is you who is clutching at straws there!
ymb

Can you confirm exactly when it was that you were elected 'Spokesperson For Everywhere Outside London'?

Also - can you confirm exactly where I indicated that news of Carnival was of interest to non-Londoners?

If you have over a million people attending over the two days, it's of interest.

Surely you can agree with that, right?
sp1814

/// If you have over a million people attending over the two days, it's of interest. ///

Only to that million people, that makes 62,489,234 who may not be interested in it.

AOG

Surely you appreciate that number couldn't possibly be correct?

I mean, there will be people who didn't attend who would still like to see the festivities.

I mean - I'm sure there are news items that you find fascinating that not everyone would be into (eg. Gracie Fields, tea, the colour beige) but the rest of wouldn't begrudge TV companies spending time on your interests.
I would go further and add that Carnival (or rather news reports of Carnival) provides a critical social function.

The sad fact is that people with agendas to push cannot rely on news of Doreen Lawrence, Lenny Henry and the MOBO Awards for the entire year.

August Bank Holiday gives these (ahem) 'commentators' time to perfect their agenda-pushing abilities prior to the busy autumn season.
Yet another thread for the racists to have their pet rant.
Canary42 - "Yet another thread for the racists to have their pet rant."

I think that is a slur on any and all of the AB'ers who are posting on this thread.

Anyone who takes any view on the subject under discussion should not be tarred with the label 'racist' - which is the inference of your comment.

I am sure a balanced and well-argued point would take the place of one-line provocation any time - don't you think?
sp1814

/// I mean, there will be people who didn't attend who would still like to see the festivities. ///

Since you are prepared to quote numbers, I take it we are dealing with fact, not supposition, so with that in mind, how can you possibly know that there are even more who would still like to see the festivities?

/// I mean - I'm sure there are news items that you find fascinating that not everyone would be into (eg. Gracie Fields, tea, the colour beige) but the rest of wouldn't begrudge TV companies spending time on your interests. ///

So if all else fails and short of calling me an out to out racist, why not try a little sarcastic ageism shall we?

But let's us get this right, when did you last see 'Our Gracie' on TV? or almost anything else that is transmitted especially for those of advancing age, why they even put an end to our Black & White Minstrel Show'

/// The sad fact is that people with agendas to push cannot rely on news of Doreen Lawrence, Lenny Henry and the MOBO Awards for the entire year. ///

And believe me there are plenty on here who have agendas to push and they don't all come from the 'Right', or those who happen to be white and heterosexual it would seem.

/// I am sure a balanced and well-argued point would take the place of one-line provocation any time - don't you think? ///

Thank you Andy, but our troll like canary, is incapable of carrying such as that out.
AOG

Yes - it's a fact that there are people who are not going to the Carnival are interested in reading and seeing clips of it.

Not a supposition.

Let's leave that one now, because it's ludicrous to suppose otherwise.

It's also a fact that there are people who did not go to Wimbledon will want to rea...

No - I shan't waste your time further on this little semantic cul de sac.

Sarcastic ageism? Is that anything like sarcastic racism when saying you wouldn't want a black family moving in next door to you, because you don't like rap music and loud barbecues?

AOG - whilst your petticoats aren't exactly showing, right now we all have a pretty good idea of their colour, brand and styling.
sp1814

/// Sarcastic ageism? Is that anything like sarcastic racism when saying you wouldn't want a black family moving in next door to you, because you don't like rap music and loud barbecues? ///

No it is neither racism or sarcasm, it is a stated fact.

/// AOG - whilst your petticoats aren't exactly showing, right now we all have a pretty good idea of their colour, brand and styling. ///

Ah, so your New Years resolution has finely failed, and you have reverted to your usual offensive tweets.

Please don't bring everyone else in with your offensive remarks, be a man and speak for yourself, please tell me, what in your strange imagination are the colour, brand and styling of those petticoats, that you admit that you can't see now?

Incidentally I do not wear petticoats, but if that is how you get your kicks, carry on imagining.
AOG - "/// Sarcastic ageism? Is that anything like sarcastic racism when saying you wouldn't want a black family moving in next door to you, because you don't like rap music and loud barbecues? ///

I hesitate to resurrect a pulled thread, but I do recall vociferously arguing with your 'black people / rap music / barbecue' interface, which you appear to be re-stating as a fact.

I have to re-assert my position which is to argue that it is clearly not a fact - merely a cultural stereotype.
Sp and AOG. If you were having this argument in a pub I'd bang your heads together!!!
