Go there, talk to the people, see what they want, see who they want to be..... that above all else is what matters. The Islands belong to the Islanders, they chose what they want to be. We defend their right to have that choice the same as any other British Overseas Territory. Corbyn is a comedy politician like many of the loony lefties ... shows what an an...

That the UK owns the Falklands rather than Argentina (or at least some country rather a lot nearer to the Falklands than we are) is more of a historical accident than anything else. On the other hand, the islanders now living there still want to be British. So there ought to be an end of the matter for now. Sorry, Jeremy.
No, he is not fit to run the labour party - or much else either. Weston is right, The Falklands have never been owned by Argentina, and are used now and then to stir up emotion among the Argentines for domestic reasons by failing leaders.

there were british and spanish settlements on the islands until 1774, when the british withdrew. argentina gained independence from spain in 1816 and in so doing inherited porto soledad (east falkland). thus britain's re-occupation of the islands in the 1830s (even though they were by then uninhabited) was illegal. furthermore, the falkland islanders have no right to self-determination because they are not "aboriginal" as defined in the UN charter.
at least, the above represents the argentine case for the islands. sqad, whilst the islands are largely wet, cold, windy and unappealing, ownership of the islands represents extensive resource rights in the surrounding waters.
