It is an overreaction by a lady who has her feminist credentials a little too tightly wound to enable her to take a compliment.
It's a shame, because the gentleman concerned will think twice before he ever compliments any women anywhere ever again.
It's also a shame because this woman's attitude does nothing to enhance the ability of women in the workplace to be able to graciously accept a compliment in the spirit in which it was offered, instead of imagining a scenario of sexism which is clearly without the slightest evidence.

The gentleman wasn't commenting on the quality of the photograph as he acknowledged he was being politically incorrect before he said 'stunning'.
Men shouldn't be commenting on women's looks in the workplace whether it is complimentary or not. I think she is right to complain.

//Miss Proudman is an award-winning barrister at the Chambers of Michael Mansfield QC. She is currently taking a sabbatical to do a PhD, where she is studying the law surrounding female genital mutilation (FGM)//
Given her interest in the above subject , one suspects that she is unnaturally reading something into the comments that just isn't there and cant see that it was just a compliment and nothing more .
In other words , she is suspicious and untrusting with regards to men

I have worked in offices for over forty years, and the day when a man cannot compliment a colleague because she looks nice will be a very very sad day indeed.

Strange how these 'non-news' stories have an awful habit of cropping up in most National Newspapers.

/// How the world has changed, a compliment is now considered offensive. ///
It isn't generally, it is that some women wish to show their power over men.
I happened to catch a glimpse of a scene in some TV soap last night, in which a woman knees a man in the crotch, this example of physical assault would not be allowed if the rolls were to be reversed.
The youtube clip is one such example.
