You're right to a point,men tend not to knee a woman in the groin ,more likely have their hands round her neck,leaving only her knees for retaliation.

Folk have the right to find offensive whatever their mind tells them is so. But one has to question the mental state of someone who receives a compliment and then rants a load of obvious nonsense about sexism; even if they didn't wish to be complimented on their appearance on linkedin.
IMO a valid consideration as to whether you employ or hire someone might be, "Would I feel I was 'stepping on eggshells' each time I communicated with this person, thus making me feel awkward and possibly less able to concentrate on my work ?" If the answer is' "Yes", then check out the CV (or whatever) of the next candidate.

If what I have read is correct he said the picture was stunning not necessarily that Ms Proudman was stunning....so....if the photographer was male ..Alex can get rid of the sexist label by publicly complimenting the skills of the photographer.

I think it very much depends on the overall atmosphere in the office involved, and the dynamics of the people there.
The offices I have worked in have been full of strong characters with a very high level of biting sarcasm, which is given and received with gusto on a daily basis.
If the atmosphere is more formal, then such behaviour would hit a very sour note - it is all about time and place.
On reflection, I think the post that started our discussion was ill-advised, but I also think it was taken out of context and the reaction was out of proportion to the potential offence caused.
