Now Who Could Have Possibly Forecast That?

Isn't there evidence that large numbers of Muslims in this country (and in the rest of Europe) DON'T want to blend in, Andy? Most of the "blending" I've seen is the West's trying to accommodate Muslim sensibilitie s rather than their trying to adjust to ours? In fact one might say that the West is blending over backwards to please a group many of whose members...

// The ISIS smuggler, who is in his thirties and is described as having a trimmed jet-black beard - sounds legit this.//
what like that Shah fellow on university challenge last night
Obviously a jihadi - yeah
Migrations have been used for this since god knows when
hardly rocket science
when the Land of the Free opened its borders to Cubans
Castro sent them all the jail-birds
I wondered that Cameron had said he would take refugees straight from Syria to avoid this. The Beeb had a tear jerking bit this morning on someone from Burundi ( africa ) meeting and marrying s/o and having five children. He had been on the road for thirteen years - well HE cant be a Syrian refugee can he ?

andy-hughes, //One of the edicts for strict Moslems is that they do not trim their beards - it is regarded as a sin.//
You will find – actually I sincerely hope you don’t – that radical Muslims can do practically anything they like if it furthers the cause of Allah, which is what these people profess to be fighting for. They could dress up as Peter Stringfellow in a mankini if they thought it would help. Lying to and cheating the infidel (that’s you and me) is permitted and actively encouraged. The simple fact is we have no idea who is arriving on Europe's shores but I’d bet my boots – and yours – that among their ranks are a considerable number of jihadists and people who support them.
//Maybe, when some of the potentially radical Muslims arrive here, they may find that not only is the West not as horrible as they were told, they actually like it, and want to blend in and live here.//
And maybe pigs will fly! You really don’t have a clue.

Peter Pedant - "I dont regard IS as strict anything - let alone muslims

Your comparison does not stand up - you cannot equate the dictates of a political doctrine with the observances of a religious faith.
I don't believe that IS are strict Muslims in the accepted sense of that word - if they were, the wouldn't be killing people.
But like any religion, Islam has its perverted adherents who use twist the bits that fit their own agendas.

Naomi - "andy-hughes, whenever someone disagrees with you, you cry offence."
I don't 'cry offence' because you disagree with me - that is what debate is about.
But when I post something, and end it with 'just a thought' and you copy and paste my post without that somewhat essential ending.
The difference between making statements - as you often do, and offering a simple thought with no intention of it being taken as anything else, is that one is musing, the other is a view - or a fact.
I don't know of any other way of interpreting the statement 'You really don't have a clue ...' except that it is rudeness, based on perceived superior knowledge, evidence of which is lacking - as usual.
If you want to debate and disagree - fine, we can do that.
If you want to misquote and be offensive, then we can part company.

Naomi - "And what do you think is the accepted sense of that word - and by whom is it accepted?"
I understand it to be the position of the vast majority of the world's Muslims - and to be accepted by them.
I may be wrong - it is just a thought - I am not claiming any kind of superior knowledge here, just writing what I think - which is allowed.

When hundreds of thousands of Muslims across the world were demonstrating (sometimes violently) following the Charlie Hebdo affair, were they expressing their outrage at the murders (done in the name of their religion by "perverted adherents"), or their outrage at the victims, Andy?

Andy-hughes, I haven’t misquoted you. You made a positive statement …. //One of the edicts for strict Moslems is that they do not trim their beards - it is regarded as a sin.//
That is incorrect and misleading – which is why I said you haven’t a clue.
If you want evidence that what I’ve said is accurate read the Koran. It doesn’t, of course, mention Peter Stringfellow in a mankini – not a pleasant thought; I added that simply to illustrate my point - but it’s a very short book written in simple language - and rather enlightening.

Goodness me - are you teaming up with goodlife?
He constantly urges us to read an ancient book full of half-truths, lies and fantasies – and I wouldn’t believe his book either – what makes you think I would take the word of yours?
If that is your idea of ‘proof’ of your knowledge of Islam, then it is really rather redundant. I am surprised.

andy-hughes, what a bizarre post! What on earth are you talking about? I’ve no intention of offering you or anyone else ‘proof’ of my knowledge – and the Koran isn’t my book. I don’t believe what’s written in it but Muslims do so if you want to know what they really believe - and I doubt you do - rather than guessing you’d be far wiser to read it.
