£5 discount for prompt payment (in the form of EU vouchers, exchangeable at any Brusells chip shop).

Perhaps I was awol when we discussed it but I can't remember hearing anything about it.
Unlike when 'cast iron dave' made a great play of not paying it.
It looks like a standard piece of government activity.

No government is ever going to trumpet to the press that they have been unable to sidestep an unpopular piece of legislation - they'd be clogging up the media all day every day!

disgusting that we pay this shower anything at all if you ask me, but I suppose the reasons for this are that we have been doing better than expected so Tory policies working then.

The reason the bill was £1.7billion higher was because our GDP now includes economic activity from prostitution, drugs, crime. Funny that you want to credit Conservative Pilicies for that economic activity, but I'm not going to argue with you.
There was never any prospect of the UK not paying this bill. Osborne had agreed to the change in the calculation of GDP a year earlier.
At the time, Cameron's and Osborne's fake indignation was noted. A quick look back at this previous thread might help ABers.

Didn't he make a big hoo-ha of not paying it. I seem to remember he, or Osborne, tried to make out they halved it.
good to have a contribution from out chief anti British correspondent, good to hear from you again gromit, have you been away?
Yep, Osborne with the help of our right wing press, presented his capitulation to the EU as a great victory, but it was anything but...

// George Osborne has declared victory over the European Union and said he had forced Brussels to halve the UK's £1.7billion budget bill.
Mr Osborne said he had worked "intensively" to secure a "better deal" for Britain over the budget demand, which was levied because of the success of Britain's economy.
The UK will now pay £850million in two instalments in July and September next year. //
"capitulation" - surely he was just paying the Bill Gromit, like you and your EUphile mates would want.
Tora,

Just back from hols.
Are you having a Party for Corbyn's victory? The end of our EU membership now looks a lot nearer. Cameron's wriggle room for keeping us in the EU just got a lot smaller :-)
Tora - "good to have a contribution from out chief anti British correspondent,"

Who is that please?
They should have given it to the UN to help fund the current refugee crisis
Tora,

EU 2013: We are changing the way GDP is calculated, is that OK Mr Osborne?
Chancellor 2013: Great, will look like my handling of the economy has resulted in a £10billion boost.

EU Sept 2014: Here is your bill for EU membership based on a % of your GDP (which is now much higher).
Chancellor Sept 2014: That's terrible, and in an election year. Tell everyone we are not going to pay it.

Chancellor Nov 2014: We are frightfully unhappy about this bill, can you reduce it please?
EU Nov 2014: No. You agreed to it. Pay up and Fook off.

Chancellor May and Sept 2015: Dear EU Commissioner, Please find enclosed our cheque for £1.7billion.

It would be funny if it wasn't so serious. Meanwhile... the right wing sheep lap up all the Government's lies.

Right wing, gromit? Apart from lying every time he opens his mouth, the man's practically a socialist. Tony Bliar Mk2.
Even the people that voted for him to keep the moronic Labour Party out of power must squirm with embarrassment now.
Let's hope they don't forget when the referendum lies start tumbling out.
Osborne a socialist.

Hmm, you really are clueless.
