/// Remember the Mail spouting the names of the suspects in the Lawrence murder case. That certainly caused problems initially I seem to recall. Sub judice I believe. ///
Well it seemed to have gained the praises of the parents of Stephen Lawrence as well as David Cameron, Ed Miliband, and Human Rights Commission Trevor Phillips, and that is backed by The Guardian above all.

AOG - //And wasn't it peer pressure, the reason for us carrying those knives back then? //
I can only speak from experience - I was a loner as a child and early teenager - I had no friends who carried knives, so I was certainly not seeking to be accepted as one of them - but I concur that your logic is perfectly sound.
Sadly, all ages evolve, and some not in good ways.

"We once did, because I can remember when most lads carried a sheath knife on their belts, and we didn't stab anyone, the most damage we did with them was carving our initials on desk tops and upon trees. "
Search of the British Newspaper archive for "knife at school" during the 1950's offers you over 1000 stories to read, they are not all about children carving on desks.

I couldn't find what you suggested, so perhaps you can supply the proof?
But what I did come up with is the wikipedia List of attacks related to primary schools etc.
And from August 1856 to December 2014, there were just two appertaining to the UK.

Spoke about this last night to my daughter who lives in Aberdeen and works in education. She is shocked by this. According to her Cults Academy is in an extremely well to do area of Aberdeen with no council estates and populated by professional people. It also leads the school tables for achievement in Scotland. However, this does not get away from the fact that a young man has had his life cut short and two families must be devastated.
Why do the media always exaggerate about the whole school being in shock and traumatized? Rubbish, the only ones that will be in shock are the ones that witnessed it and close family and friends. For the rest it will be the subject they gossip about for a few days and glad they got a few days of school. Of course there is always the mass grieving and laying of flowers at the gate which seems to be the in thing to do these days at the sight of any tragedy.

I can't be bothered trawling through the whole lot but most are historic reports that happen to include the word 'Knife' or 'Knives'.
