i ask this because this year we seem to have witnessed more aircraft related accidents/incidents, than I can ever remember in recent past years

The clue is in the word "SEEM".
It might seem more because without a doubt the reasons behind the accidents have been particularly shocking and unusual - Malaysian airline shot down and another almost certainly not a technical fault (MH370), Germanwings with a mad pilot and even this latest Russian flight looking more likely to be terrorist related. That's what unusual, terrorism and deranged pilots, can't recall many of those up until this lot.
Every way you may wish to measure it, air travel has got safer year on year for the past decade. The stats foe 2015 are not yet collated, but so far, nothing is out of the ordinary.
The Plane manufacturers are making safer aircraft, but they can do nothing about suicidal pilots or missile attacks. We have had both of those before, so that isn't anything new.
If you already have a fear of flying, then the Germanwings and Ukraine incidents will add to that fear.
But people dying in road traffic incidents far exceeds those dying in air incidents. The equivalent of 20 Greenwings EVERY DAY die in on the roads, but we all still use the roads.

And it has nothing to do with the fear of flying, since I am ex RAF.
I have never before heard of suicide pilots, not including kamikaze pilots, and now since there is an increase in terrorism isn't it fair to say this is a fairly recent risk and that by that very fact, flying is probably less safe than it was before terrorism?

When are you thinking before terrorism was? There has always been terrorism. If you are saying since 9/11, then you are wrong. There were more terrorism attacks on planes before 9/11 than since.

When are you thinking before terrorism was? There has always been terrorism. If you are saying since 9/11, then you are wrong. There were more terrorism attacks on planes before 9/11 than since.

It's a fair question to query the safety of air travel every time there is a fatal crash like this one, but it's no longer clear now what factors, almost certainly not relevant here, such as drones, crowded airways etc you consider contributory. Given you were using a crash as an example, it seemed reasonable to assume that you meant that there might be more as a percentage , and that seems not to be the case

Many National Servicemen of all services were acquainted with the interior of military transport aircraft. They were'nt the Home Guard. They did overseas postings as well but I suppose you wouldn't know about that.
