I'd have though a LOHMO would welcome the chance to address the CBI

"poor arrangements"

yeah righ...he knows theyll rip him a new one !
It's out of his league.
"......one ex-minister said it was a missed chance for Mr Corbyn to engage with business."
Probably wouldn't do it without his union rep present.
I don't want Corbyn 'engaging' with capitalist banking scumbags - I want him fighting them and their subservient Tory lackeys every step of the way.
Jezza is a lover, not a fighter. Which he will find to his cost, does not a party leader make.
^That will do wonders for jobs and growth. :o/
^That was to sunny-dave.
It won't hurt jobs and growth - it might scare a few tax-evading bankers away - but ultimately they need the UK more than it needs them.

We need to do business on our terms not theirs - a principled opposition might just start this process, rather than the Tory-Lite nonsense we've had from Balls for the last 5 years.
No Dave, a 'credible' opposition would be needed to do that. Corbyn and his cabinet are about as credible as a box of frogs.
There are some very effective frogs out there, Zacs - quite poisonous if you don't take care ...
sunny-dave, I assume by 'our' you're talking about Labour, Labour doesn't understand business. Miliband didn't understand it, Corbyn doesn't understand it, and you, it appears, don't understand it. You call business leaders 'Capitalist scum', but without capitalism society is a very sad place indeed. Take at look at any socialist/communist country, and then think about it. You really wouldn't want to live there.
Poisonous is right. Corby will certainly prove poisonous to his own party.
I'm exaggerating for effect, Naomi - as you probably realise.

There is a 'middle-way' where business is allowed to prosper and the workforce is properly rewarded for its labour. This has worked in the past and must be reinstated in the future for a healthy society to exist.

The problem is that we have allowed the system in the UK to become so distorted in favour of the rich and powerful that they ride roughshod over everyone else in their pursuit of ever larger, more obscene, incomes - whilst evading legitimate taxation.

We need someone to 'enough is enough' - Corbyn may (or may not) be the right person to do this - but I'd rather have him attacking the grotesque excesses of 21st century capitalism than being sucked inside their tent.
The CBI has 190,000 members.
There are 4,900,000 companies in the UK.
Maybe some of the dosh comes from the 4,710,000 businesses that aren't members of the CBI.
sunny-dave, //I'm exaggerating for effect, Naomi - as you probably realise. //

No, I didn't realise. When you call the people who create the wealth in the western world 'Capitalist scum', I kind of believe that's what you think.
I was specifically referring to Bankers in that pejorative remark, Naomi.

They do not 'create' wealth - they merely gamble with other peoples money - keeping the winnings when they are lucky and welshing on all their debts when they lose.

That's a scumbag profession in my book.
sunny-dave, So the country has to be brought to its knees under the jurisdiction of the likes of Corbyn, who has never grown out of his impossibly childish idealism, because you don’t like bankers. Good idea!! Gawd save us from the Labourites!

It's a speciality of the Labour Party Naomi, get into Power and 'spend' the Country into near bankruptcy, they do it every time. It does look as if there might be a longer wait than usual before Tom and Jerry can do it again this time around.
In terms of strategy, there is very little to be gained from the leader of the Opposition going to the CBI conference now. They would only boo him anyway. Perhaps in 3 or 4 years (if he lasts that long) when business might be looking for an alternative to whatever Osborne is doing, then addressing tneir conference then would make sense. Not now.
Take a look at this Baldric. Osbourne ran up more debt in four years than Labour managed in 13. And you claim "It's a speciality of the Labour Party Naomi, get into Power and 'spend' the Country into near bankruptcy"
