British "stranded" At Sharm El-Sheikh

Why can't the package holiday airlines take these Brits on a bus to Cairo Airport, and fly them home from there ? There isn't any restrictions for British planes to go to Cairo is there ?

The more terrorist attacks the cheaper holidays get. I think it might be a 'beggars can't be choosers' attitude and just hope and pray that it doesn't happen to them.

Myself....I'd rather stay home or go visit my mother in Norfolk.

I'm pretty sure that before this plane crash no-one was telling people not to go to Sharm. X000s have gone there this year. I don't see how they can be blamed at all, there were no FO warnings and why should there be. It's like saying people shouldn't go to New York.

Your geography of Egypt is very poor Mikey.

Sharm is on the Sinai pinnisula which is separated from the mainland of the country by the Red Sea and the Suez Canal.

Anyone wishing to return would merely fly themselve to Cairo, there are several scheduled flights a day, and make their way home from there.

Contrary to the reports, when I was in Sharm earlier this year the security passenger side was very good.

Ah but someone could have put a toothpaste tube of Semtex with a timer and fuse system in your bags under the passenger floor, gromit - that, I understand, is where the Brit aviation security team are looking at in earnest.

Well it may be naive of me but there's no way I'd leave there except on a British plane. You wouldn't get me flying to Cairo on some sand filled turbo prop, even before all this happened :-)

Prudie, the company you fly with isn't the issue. All the planes leaving from Sharm are loaded by Egyptians.

don't forget the bald tyres on the plane too, Prudie...I flew Cairo to Alex one time and baby Princess Charlotte probably has more grooves on her skin than the rubber on those landing wheels....what the hell happened when it rained, who knew - but guaranteed skidding, I thought.

I know Naomi, I was basing that on the suggestion that we're going to fly in empty planes to bring them back, hopefully with any food etc already on board.

Maybe not the authorities, Prudie. Earlier this year I offered to give my daughter the cost of her holiday to Sharm El-Sheikh not to go.
I knew this would happen one day, my only surprise is that there wasn't several incidents on the same day.

Prudie, but the baggage would be loaded by the locals - and maintenance checks/refuelling would be carried out by the locals. Impossible to avoid local people being involved in one way or another.

Naomi I accept your points, it would just be less worrying for me if I was coming on Monarch rther than Egytair or whatever.

Talbot I'd also agree with you, I wouldn't have gone and I wouldn't want my daughter going either - but that's because I'm a worrier and wouldn't go on holiday anywhere in the world where I had to stay in gated, guarded or shielded community.

Probably right, my judgement is based on their airworthiness rather than terrorism - I'm a very nervous flyer.
