I sincerely hope that the Police catch the driver of the white Audi, and soon.

What a brave little lad to give his story.

We were never allowed to play in the street after dark, even though in those days there wasn't as much motorised traffic in the side streets and all the horses were tucked up comfortably in their stables.

It was permissible to play in one's garden, but the general rule as regards anywhere else, "in" after dark.
ummmm

/// Bad drivers don't get suddenly worse when it gets dark. ///

Do you really believe that?

Even good drivers make sure they are better drivers during the hours of darkness, it is called "taking that extra care".
Naomi - and ruin their street cred :-)

I'm not talking about playing out 10pm but it gets dark gradually, by the time they realise it's getting dark it could be dark by the time they actually get home.

It is reported that they were on the way to a friends.
Some children don't 'do' street cred.
Yes...I do believe that. A bad driver is bad no matter what time of the day it is. And Yes, I do drive
Reportedly doing 60/70 mph.
And some children won't let their mothers kiss them at the school gates. My kids did but they'd be mortified if I sat in the park watching them play football with their mates.
ummmm

/// No good teaching a kid the green cross code while never letting them use it. ///

And kids playing football in the street all adhere to the 'green cross code' do they?

Dream on.
They weren't exactly playing football in the street. Kicking it to one another, it would appear.
ummmm, So you allow your children make the decisions. Mine would have to get over being mortified.
What has kissing children at a school gate got to do with this 'accident' ?
Zacs, forget the driver this now about bashing parents.
AOG...in this day and age actually being able to play football in the street is almost non existent. Most houses have a car sitting outside.

And is anyone listening to Zacs?
Ummm. I try to chuck a few pertinent 'facts' in but it would seem people would rather debate the morals.
Naomi....my kids did what I allowed them to do. I made the decisions. I was allowed freedom within my mums boundaries and I wanted my kids to have the same. Treating a 10 year old like a baby or doing something I know would embarrass them is not something I would do.
The moral is if these children weren't allowed to play out in the street after dark without adult supervision, the chances are the accident wouldn't have happened.
^That was to Zacs.

Each to their own, ummmm, but your ways aren't mine.
Naomi...read Zacs replies.
I've read them.
