I sincerely hope that the Police catch the driver of the white Audi, and soon.

What a brave little lad to give his story.

I hope they get the scum bag to, mikey. Apparently according to BBC local news earlier tonight there was damage to the car ( damaged parts in the road ) the driver is going to want to get the car fixed up somewhere I should imagine.

Thanks Balders.

Yes, scum indeed Tony...fingers crossed that some body reports the car.
Yes scum indeed for leaving that poor boy injured as he was, but the question that must be asked what were the lads doing playing football in the street when it was almost dark?
Question Author
AOG...that question did occur to me as well. Where I live, its quite common to see young children out playing after dark.
mikey4444

That may well be, but it still doesn't make it right.
It gets dark at about 4:30 now...
Question Author
No, of course it doesn't, and neither did I imply that it did. But it means that drivers need to be more aware that children may be out playing, something this driver appears not to have taken on board.
It wasn't late. Why shouldn't children be allowed to play out? I doubt daylight would have prevented it from happening.
Question Author
Ummm...do you think its a good idea to let young children play football, in the street, in the dark, at 18:00 ?
The details seem a little lacking as to the circumstances. Apparently he was out with his brother and aunt. Neachells Rd appears to be a big main road. Not somewhere football should be played at all. The driver was obviously a coward for not stopping.
Kids playing out in the dark?

Never happened when I was a lad ... bloody disgrace!
I wouldn't let children play outside
ummmm

/// It wasn't late. Why shouldn't children be allowed to play out? ///

It is not about the time of day or allowing children out to play, what it s about the fact that at this time of year it is dark at that time, so care should be taken where children are safe to play.

/// I doubt daylight would have prevented it from happening ///

I don't know whether you drive or not, but there is a greater risk during the hours of darkness than if it had been light, hence headlights and recommendations that pedestrians and cyclist wear conspicuous clothing.

Public roads accessible to motorised vehicles are not the safest environment for young children to play football.
oops, don't know what happened there, Try again.

I wouldn't let children play out after dark. I don't like the idea of children playing in the street at all.
Yes...mine played out. The have to learn and as parents we have to teach them the dangers. No good teaching a kid the green cross code while never letting them use it.

I was knocked over in daylight. Bad drivers don't get suddenly worse when it gets dark. The boogeyman operates during the day too.

I suppose we could make them all stay in and just *** about them being obese.
… or we could take the trouble to take them to sports centres, youth clubs, etc - or even the local park.
Naomi...I do understand your point. Traffic is so much worse than when I was a kid. My kids would go to the park but that wouldn't stop them kicking their ball on the way home.
That might have been their ultimate destination. Bit more detail here. Not exactly playing football:

ummmm, the operative word in my post is 'take'.
