a cynical perpetuation of the myth that the box on the back of a sky dish is a council house?
or fair comment?

While yes of course Nono e will die for giving up their tv subscription there is something disgusting about a wealthy person advising a poorer one what economies they think they should make

I'm happy to agree that subscription TV services should be regarded as a 'luxury'. So, if money is tight in a household, it would make sense to cancel any subscription to Sky (etc). Indeed, there have been plenty of posts from AB members who've made such a decision to economise.
However I suspect that the reality is that those families which are genuinely the poorest have either never had subscription TV in the first place or they've already cancelled it. So telling them that they can save money by cancelling Sky (etc) won't help them.

I'm forever juggling money to make savings but it is relatively easy for me these days as I have a very good credit rating.
I can swap utilities providers because I'm not in debt; I can renegotiate my broadband/tv package by threatening to leave; I can swap bank accounts for the best benefits; I can make big savings by buying heavily reduced items in bulk (today it was 56 Finish dishwasher tablets for a £5 instead of £16. I bought 5 boxes. Cheaper than Aldi's at £5.50 for 40)
When I was hard up and in debt it was impossible to make savings this way and there was no way I could have premium tv.
It is true that money makes money.

It s a statement that is not backed up by any data. It panders to a myrh for which there is no evidence.
Most poor people these days have replaced their SKY subscription boxes with Droid boxes which lets them get all the footy and new films for free.
It is no surprise that a Conservative Minister is clueless about such things.

"Is it any wonder that the Tory Party is viewed as out of touch ? They obviously think that satellite TV is only for servants ! "
why the hell should the rest of us pay for the people you are happy to flood the country with to have sky or whatever ?...if youve made such a great saving by giving it up then you can use that to pay to keep these people in luxury items...what a damn liberty youve got to blame it on the torys..typical leftie....
