Disregarding politics, why should anyone getting benefit hand outs of any description be able to afford Pay TV.
We both worked all our lives and couldn't afford to waste that sort of money.
I too know people who have not one but 4 mobile phone contracts in one property.Mum Dad and 2 school children claiming benefits.
I do have a mobile phone. £29 to purchase it from Tesco and spend probably £10 every couple of months on it. I don't claim benefits just the reduced pension I worked from the age of 15 to earn. Its reduced as I only paid the Married Woman's stamp back then. It was the done thing and company pensions were not talked about back then.
Freeview has a whole host of chanels to choose from.
Mikey,
From the risible nonsense you wrote earlier about fiscal matters on your thread about Trump I would suggest you take a back seat in your attempt to score political points. For a person who advocates illegal immigrants to do black economy jobs and say they are helping the economy by paying tax on a packet of fags or whatever and dodging income tax is just beyond a joke.
You claim the NHS is shot because of Tory policys. It is shot because of immigrants who do not pay their taxes and you condone it!!! grrrrr
I worked with someone nearly 60 and boy did she work probably 3x someone half her age. She lost her husband in the eighties and had 4 kids to bring up. She worked 3 jobs at times and lied to the benefit agency. All she had was food in the cupboard and clothes on there backs (not designer, she wasn't the type). The poor are not the 1-10% that we read about.
Sorry? (Shaking head and poking ears). Seriously what is wrong with that?
We can't afford pay TV - so we don't have it. It's not a cruel deprivation. I'm baffled at the furore. You cut your coat according to your cloth, full stop.
I'm coming round to the notion that internet is essential, but with that and Freeview I'm more than happy - as are most people, I suspect.
^^^ Just read some other answers. My mobile phone cost (I think) £12 from Tescos. I can use it to make and receive phone calls. Possibly I may be able to text messages - that's fine. I probably use about £2 a month of the money I paid in on it - it is only used when I'm unexpectedly going to be late or some other unexpected thing happens. In fact, £2 is probably an overstatement. OH has what I laughingly call an 'I-phone' - it sits on the sideboard and he 'eyes' it occasionally!
"I'm coming round to the notion that internet is essential"
but its not really if you think about it...look at the main thrust of all this everybody should have high speed BB etc etc as a right...its not for just banking or running your business, you dont need high speed for that, you do for streaming media like fillums and kids mainly playing online games etc etc though..hardly a necessity is it ?...this is another myth thats being perpetuated by all sorts of organisations including government...one day it will be a necessity when the banks have all closed their branches etc etc but its not here yet....
This is ridiculous. It's along the lines of the widely-held belief that all benefit receivers have massive plasma tellies. (Which they don't.)
If people are low paid and receive tax credits, they should be able to spend it on what they want. I'm sure the vast majority choose not to spend it on Sky, anyway.
