How Do You Feel About The Sudden Rash Of The Tricolour?

I've noticed this on Facebook and now here on AB.

I had a conversation with a colleague about this today, and both of us feel uneasy about it, both find it difficult to express exactly why.

I felt the same when suddenly loads of friends on social media slapped the rainbow flag over their avatars when America ratified equal marriage.

What are your thoughts? If you haven't changed your avatar, do you have reason, or is it just something you've not thought about doing?

I have no problem with people doing it...i suspect though a lot of them do it so as to not upset their peers etc....I never change my avatars for anything , not sure what my firends think, their problem not mine if theyre not happy about it...

as to the rainbow flag, trust you know who to bring that up...pfffttt...

Well that's very generous of you, but I think you are way off beam with your assessment of peoples motivations. It's called 'solidarity' with the suffered and suffering, and a product of a human need to do something, no matter how small.
The Tricolor, in case you don't know, represents liberty, equality and fraternity and flies today outside the town hall of my nearby small German town alongside the National flag, and no one is saying "hey everyone look at me".

I can understand people not wanting to change their avatar or wear a badge or a symbol in support of a situation, but I cannot understand why it would actually make you feel uneasy unless you are against the cause.

SP, Only you can know what you're really thinking, but perhaps the sudden rash of tricolour creates unease because, as one who consistently posts in support of immigration and in defence of Muslim values, the display of solidarity against a culture that is completely alien to the western world demonstrates clearly the unsavoury fact that many people are now realising that stupid liberal Europe, in its misguided assumptions, has created an unassailable problem for itself, jeopardising your freedoms along with those of everyone else. It hasn't occurred to me to change my avatar.

In fact why have the various change of seasons, and special events logos, that once were displayed in the top left hand side of the page, disappeared?

It seems to be a combo of symbols of nuclear disarmament, Anarchism, the Eifel tower, and a fighter bomber, all in pastel shades of pink, blue and grey. Would you please explain it for the simple minded ?
