What exactly will theses armed forces actually do when they encounter a boatload of migrants? Machine gun them? Hardly likely. Escort them to a processing centre where they will be stuck for months if not years more like
I thought we go "harking back" to things in the past?

"Harping on about" something is probably what you were thinking of, Ummmm?

Yep...probably :-)
FF. so the length of the French coastline added the the length of the British coastline is infinity X2 ? :-)

There has to be at least one of those sick, wish-fulfilment video games out there by now. AOG has been on this invasion theme for at least five years, probably more. 50-cal for crimbo, I think.

This guy's boat would have been visible on coastal shipping control radar. It just needed someone to get off his fundament(can't say ar se) and phone the cops.
UMMM, he harps on and often harps back...

/// so we should help others that are being oppressed then ///

You are getting the two mixed up again.

They are not refugees, but illegal 'economic' migrants.
With the depleted numbers in our armed forces, I wouldn't have thought it was possible to patrol 1000's of miles of our coastline.

I am not even sure if we could have responded as rapidly and as well as the French did, if the terrorist attack was in London instead of Paris.

/// ANOTHEOLDGIT, if it meant more chance of evading the authorities would folk not pay more? ///

Hey, we are not talking mega rich here, but we are talking about those poor refugees (as some wish them to be called) who have been forced to leave their homes with little but the clothes they are wearing, and who will have to be accommodated and looked after in British hotels, all at our tax-payers expense.

When I say patrol, I was not referring to British Tommies, walking up and down with rifle on their shoulder, although that is the way we once managed to carry out the task so successfully.

We now have high speed pursuit launches, helicopters, radar etc.

Perhaps is because the Left have made our police and armed forces fight with one arm tied behind their backs, and pity anyone who happens to shoot an enemy.
Do you think a 20,000 reduction in full-time army personnel since 2010 has helped any? Not sure that left-wingers were involved in that.
The Telegraph, hardly a left-wing newspaper, seems to think that we might not be able to respond as well as we once did ::::

"The most recent cuts, moreover, have had a disastrous impact on our ability to undertake even the most basic military tasks"

Honestly all this talk of troops on the beach! All you need is give the local yoofs a few drones and they can have fun while sending pictures back to MRF

If it was left to your leader, we wouldn't have any troops at all.
^^^but then the country would become such a sheethole no one would try to get in anyway -job sorted
ANOTHEOLDGIT, if there has been any reduction in the abilities of the armed forces or police to respond appropriately to emergencies, who is responsible?
Mikey, that report is dated early 2015 – pre-election – and if you read it you will find that a similar situation would have existed whoever won that election.

By the way, there’s an army recruitment stand in the Tesco car park here today.
