As one who has seen the inappropriat e application of the CCC and also one who generally (but not always) supports Conservative policies, I have to say this was one of the most ridiculous policies ever introduced in the Criminal Justice System. As one who has seen the inappropriate application of the CCC and also one who generally (but not always) supports Conservative policies, I have to say this was one of the most ridiculous policies ever introduced in the Criminal Justice System. There was nothing just about imposing a £520 charge on a penniless shoplifter found guilty of stealing two cans of lager (or even the £150 charge that would have resulted had he pleaded guilty).
I'm glad the charge has been ditched. I wonder if the Magistrates who resigned rather than impose it will be reinstated?

NJ radio 3 has quite a depressing interview with an articulate ex-magistrate "the one who tried to help a convict" and seemed to have been damaged by the gusto in which the magistrates secretariat took against him
