It doesn't really argue that this is bad - but that we're in a weird place where the media no longer checks power.

Nate Silver - who correctly predicted the election results in all fifty states last time round, and therefore knows a bit about this kind of thing, reckons that Mr Trump has an optimistic 20% support among Republicans, which boils down to 8% of the electorate.
With figures like that, Mr Trump is about as likely to make candidate selection as I am to get a date with Alison King!
So we should smile indulgently at his histrionics, and wait until he quietly burns out and fades away.

A lot of people across the political spectrum are laughing at him.
He has proposed building a giant wall across the whole of America to keep South Americans out.
He has proposed closing down the Internet.
He has proposed a blanket ban on all Muslims from every country in the entire world.
The man is a gift.
He is comedy.
It is utterly fantastic to watch people defending him.
Please be sure that the issues he raises are serious and should be debated.
But also be sure, that many of us eagerly log onto news sites in order to get our daily fix of Trumpisms.

Twitter, Instagram, Answerbank etc etc, are all media sites. We are all journalists now. Trump has had a huge polarising effect and certainly brings into focus the very serious concerns of millions of people. He leaves no dithering space, marmite politics.

> How do we sort the wheat from the chaff?
You don't look at the attributes of wheat that are the same as the attributes of chaff, you look at the attributes that are different.
E.g. the fact that they want to kill people separates Islamic terrorists from other followers of Islam. The fact that they all follow Islam does not.

YMP..."Yes, why not gag someone who you disagree with? That is the type of closed mind we are talking about jum." (No idea what 'jum' means.)
Perhaps you didn't notice that one of Trump's suggested idiocies was the closure of the Internet. Seems pretty clear to me - though obviously not to you - that that is a case not only of "gagging people you disagree with" but also gagging multitudes of "people you probably DO agree with"!
So, Trump's closed mind is a closed mind you are happy with?
Strangely enough, I'm all for shutting hate preachers up because I disagree with them as well. Idiots and hate-mongers are best not listened to; it's as simple as that.

Jim, //Dunno. But you don't treat the wheat as if it is also chaff. We don't anywhere else, so why here in particular?//
No, you don't know - but you objected to it being done during World War II when there was no question of putting national security or lives at risk for fear of causing offence.
Ellipsis, //You don't look at the attributes of wheat that are the same as the attributes of chaff, you look at the attributes that are different. //
If it’s that simple I wonder why those people who sat next to the 7/7 bombers on the London transport system didn’t shift – and quick!
