retrocop - // can assure you I am no misogynist. Have you ever seen a large group of trollops standing around the Victoria Sporting Club, Homer Street, W.2 on an evening every day. These teenage Lolita's are dressed to kill. //

Judging a woman you don't know from Adam as a 'trollop' based purely on her dress and location, and your perceived notion of her intentions does rather underline your misogynist credentials!

"They just hover on the pavement near the door waiting for a Limo to stop at the kerb with preferably an Arab inside. No word is spoken the Arab just nods at a girl and she follows into the casino. Those girls are invariably seen again in the interview room of Paddington or Marylebone police station. Mascara running down their faces and a black eye or two.Still they get to keep the newly acquired Gold Rolex watch. Of course the Arab claims Diplomatic Immunity and is rushed back to Saudi until the next time. That is the risk of the games these girls play. I have seen it many times. Have you? //

I have not witnessed this scene played out as you describe - but your apparent acceptance of it as simply the way things are points exactly to my position - as long as individuals accept that this is standard behaviour, and it is understood as 'the way things are ...' then nothing is going to change - either from the point of view of women who are offering themselves in unsavoury situations, or men who think that women's bodies can be purchased for a Rolex watch.
I'm obliged to you, Mr Hughes, for your insightful and, in this case, mercifully brief comment.
Please don't be offended if I fail to take your opinion onboard.
Naomi - //I don't think Douglas is making light of it. He's being realistic. //

In what sense do you view his post as 'realistic'?

I am not offended in the slightest - my opinion is just that - my opinion.

I would not be so arrogant as to suggest that it is something you should use to change your viewpoint - I am just disappointed that it appears not to at least give you food for thought.
It's easy for one to get a belly full of 'food for thought', especially when served up in such a sweet and sickly sauce.

Strange analogy - what prey is 'sweet and sickly' about the view I have expressed?

But I do get to know them . Later in the interview room where I have often heard these sorry tales of woe. It is known as being "on the game"
As long as a rich Arab throws £50 notes at these girls they are his. They have been bought by him to do whatever he likes. That is the Arab psyche. The girls don't mind until it gets a little rougher than they expect. That is the risk they know and take.Thats why it ends in tears and the mascara runs.
If I had accepted every bribe I was offered by most of the Arabs I have worked amongst I could of retired 30 years ago. They really think they can buy their protection officers. An Arab has no integrity at all when it comes to money.
andy-hughes, //In what sense do you view his post as 'realistic'?//

I really can't believe you genuinely require an explanation.

Sorry to strain your belief system - but I do require an explanation, if you are willing to supply one.

Thank you.

Under Sharia law it is possible to buy your way out of any offence by paying 'blood-money' even murder. That explains why an Arab will offer a bribe.

I can speak from personal experience. How many Arab kings, princes, sheiks and emirs have you worked with. What I say is fact. What I have seen and heard for myself. Can you truthfully say the same?
There we have it then, it's merely a cultural difference and as such must be taken into account before condemning behaviour.

Let the agonised back-pedalling whilst hand wringing commence.

This could be good.
andy-hughes, //You did say in the past that you are a retired police officer didn't you?
Thank heavens for that!//

Careful. You’re contradicting your own advice. From another thread earlier this morning.

//If you disagree, by all means say so, but be willing to back up your statement, not simply tack on a silly insult.//

I have not worked with any Arab royalty - but that does not bolster your assertion that your personal experience translates into 'fact'.

If I were to advise you that I was beaten senseless in an alleyway by a policeman, that would make it my experience.

That would not translate into me making a statement that all policemen are therefore mindless violent thugs. That would no more be a 'fact' than is your statement about Arabs - it is your perception - nasty, bigoted and racist as it is - it is still only your perception, not a fact.

A fair point.

retrocop - please allow me to withdraw that final remark, with my apologies, it was uncalled for, and undeserved.

Thank you.
Apology accepted.

Naomi
Thank you for your timely moderating. :-)
Indeed - thanks Naomi. I can be as guilty as anyone in getting a little heated at the keyboard!
