David Bowie - Media Frenzy?

At the risk of being controversial! Yes David Bowie was a Music Legend. We have lost many great musicians and other celebs. But why has the media gone overboard on DB, saying everyone will be devastated by his passing etc etc. It's top story all over the place. He was liked by many I know, but certainly not by everybody I feel sure.

Kennedy was a world game changer (Bay of Pigs) with more responsibility than Bowie or Ed Stewpot. Both entertainers. One sang and acted . The other played records of the other's songs. Both gave pleasure to a lot of people. Both nice people. No point in suttee and weep. You can still buy their music.
Do I want a day long requiem mass. No thankyou. I am sorry for all your grief.

With regards to any kind of music you have to be of a certain generation to appreciate it. I can understand older people not liking or being interested in David Bowie`s music. I was a child of the 70s so I quite liked David Bowie (soul music was my thing though) If my Mum was still alive and I talked to her today about David Bowie, she would remember him but she wouldn`t know what all of the fuss was about and she would probably say that his music was a din. I remember my Gran feeling the same over the Beatles. Each to their own.
it was vulcan who threw JFK in there, not me. However, if you're really upset I think you will find, despite all the hyperbole, that there are in fact numerous radio, TV and online channels that aren't mentioning him at all.

Maybe you're consuming too much media countrykid. I heard it in the radio as I drove to work and have just watched a brief half hour tribute programme at 7.30pm on BBC1. Not what I'd call a frenzy. Looking forward to more in depth programmes to follow, having been at work all day I can't get enough of it.
Hero?? Reading the subtitles on hours of nonstop coverage today on TV some commentator described him as "a incredible hero for appearing on TV wearing a dress".
I am sorry for those of you in mourning but even if he did wear a dress on TV in the 70's to describe him as a hero is a mockery of true hero's who achieved much more for their fellow man and got paid peanuts for doing their heroic work. Lets get this into perspective.!

I agree with the op and others WHY?????????
Yes he was a famous pop star, and tried his hand at acting etc, but others more famous have passed on throughout the years, without this hysteria.
What kind of reaction can we expect when the likes of Paul McCartney, Cliff Richards etc pass away?
How many remember the founding father of British pop music, Lonnie Donegan (who I hear some ask) passing away?
