I am amazed by this ! Why would anyone go out in the street dressed like this ?

What kind of message does that give to the kids ?

Mikey...I agree with your comments completely , but many of the modern mothers have totally disregarded etiquette and set a poor example to the children. I suppose that one gets used to the smell of bodily fluids and sweat as it is probably perceived as healthy. It also amazes me that the husbands, other halves, partners or whatever, allow them to act on this...

//Mikey....how many children do you have? //

Strange question. What difference does that make?
I don't mind or care what other parents wear when they take their children to school, none of my business. However even my liberal thinking on this one was given a rattle when in another article about this the headteacher went on to say that parents have even been known to turn up for school appointments and assemblies in their PJ's!

I have said nothing whatsoever about "layabout scroungers" Ummm..........
I leave that to others.

I have no children but what possible difference would it make if I did ?

I have, on occasions, taken my young niece to school and collected her, and
I made sure that I was dressed appropriately every time.

Anyway, isn't it a bit cold and wet to be out and about in night clothes ?

I am just off down to the paper shop and I shall be dressed in Gore Tex practically from head to foot. Willy will have his little waxed coat on as well, because its peeing down here.
"Willy will have his little waxed coat on as well, because its peeing down here. "

That, surely mikey, is taking things a little far .... (!)

Anyway, I'm with the teacher on this one

ichkeria...Willy is quite old now and he feels the cold terribly !
Because getting up and getting little ones fed, washed and dressed and out the door takes time and sometimes parents run late for a variety of reasons. I would rather jump in the car in my PJ's than my kids be late for school.

Mikey...you're talking as if parents are going out in a silk nightie. PJ's nowadays are not much different to tracksuits.
\\\\ PJ's nowadays are not much different to tracksuits.\\\

Except one doesn't sleep in one's track suit.....does one?

"Silk nighties?....if above knee.........I might make an exception....;-)

Ummm....these women that don't wash and dress properly are in the minority. So if the majority of mothers can manage to it, why can't these few do it as well ?

I grew up with 4 little brothers and my Mum wouldn't have dreamed of doing this. And she didn't have a car back in he 50's and 60's. It was a half mile walk to school and I can never, ever recall seeing any other Mother dressing inappropriately. The truth here is that these Mothers are just lazy and think they can get away with it. The word slattern comes to mind.

Standards have plummeted I'm afraid.

Sqad...behave yourself !
I don't agree. If I seen someone on the school run in their PJ's I would just assume they were running late. Not jump to the conclusion that they were lazy.

And my mother never actually took us to school. We got a bus. So every morning my mother would still be in her night clothes when we left before she got ready for work herself.
This is a similar repeat of the article 6 years ago when Tescos complained about slovernly shoppers in the nightwear. I thought I had read about it before.

I'm with Minty - I hate even opening the door to the postman in my dressing gown and with no make up on! Most embarrassing LOL :)

Well done headteacher!! But having worked in a school, some teaching staff need a lesson in sartorial elegance anyway ;)
I could accept the 'running late' argument were it not for the fact that they inevitably have full make up and hair 'done'. Here at least it seems to be an accepted 'fashion'.
Darlington may be different if they have not even had a wash!
I think you are being unfair. These poor parents have rushed to the school straight from the supermarket. What time did they have to dress ?
"Ms Chisholm said the final straw came when parents wore pyjamas to the Christmas show and to recent parents' evenings."

How long does it take people to get dressed (!)
I don't think it is any of Tesco's business mind you
There is a bit of a difference between dropping the kids off and turning up for parents evening.
//I don't think it is any of Tesco's business mind you//

Ich - I do think Tescos have a right - I shudder to think the fruit and veg I pick up have been touched by the great unwashed!
What is the betting.....that in the next 48 hours, there will be pajama clad women, breast feeding their babies, shouting and screaming, waving placards outside the school?
My suspicion is that some parents do it for effect, which the parents' evening remark would seem to back up.
It does seem unbelievable that you would not have time to slip a few clothes on. Especially when you consider the amount of time spent choosing which bedroom slippers to wear :-)
How do you know that people wearing day clothes have washed?
