Pegida To Launch In U K

Tommy Robinson will be the face of Pegida in the UK. Athe founder of the EDL, it appears he has renounced his past. Has he grown up enough to take on his new task though....?

I'd never heard of this guy until he started popping up on AB now and then. I heard him speak on the R4 one evening this week and taken at face value everything he said made absolute sense. To add a large number of people did bad stuff when they were young or held extreme views, people can mellow. I mean, I used to vote Labour.

"I have no doubt that whichever band of brothers pitches up in the name of anti islamification or whatever they will be nothing at all like the intellectual crew who turned up in the days of the edl
No doubt whatsoever. And that will be islamificification nipped in the bid there and then
Sorted :-)".
Does the "or whatever" mean that you think Islamification is NOT a threat to Europe, Ichkeria? If so would you be kind enough to explain to people like me who think it is why our fears are misplaced or irrational?

You believe what you wish to believe and I will believe what I wish to believe.
The key thing here though is what exactly is going to be different about Robinson's current kite flying from his last one. Different name, same old same old.
Not sure what good demonstrating is going to do. A load of people marching in silence or whatever (sorry that phrase against) is going to stop the evils of islamificaician in its tracks
You betcha

The question (asked in its broadest terms) is "Is Islam a threat to the West?". This is a coherent question. Historically (at least until 1683) there could have been only one answer to that question - an incontrovertible Yes. What has changed in the last three hundred years which would come up today with the opposite answer?
The question of whether Islam is a threat to the west (which I certainly don't think it is) is not relevant to the matter of Tommy Robinson and his Pegida stuff.
Allegedly Robinson is worried about Islamic extremism, and who wouldn't be.
But his response to that is in my opinion and the opinion of many, hopelessly misguided. He wants easy solutions to complicated issues, and so it seems do many people on here.
I don't wish to give people like him and his follows the undeserved courtesy of entering into a debate about religion, a subject that bores me to death.

I understand the asymmetry of our "dialogue", Ichkeria. I was trying to address the stated concerns of Pergida, irrespective of the character and real motives of any of its members. You didn't allow yourself to lose focus on the OP.
I'll raise a question tomorrow in which I will argue for my proposition, and invite you to tell me why I'm wrong.
I'm pretty thick-skinned by the way. Don't really care what people call me as long as they're arguing honestly and are willing to justify their "racist" etc. slurs.

There’s something quite unfathomable going on in the minds of the people who are condemning Pegida, and by extension Tommy Robinson. Here we have posters saying that they don’t think our soldiers should be abused by anyone and that Islam is not a threat to the west, and yet our soldiers are being abused by those who do represent a very definite threat to the west. Quite simply they hate the west. How much more do you need to know? It’s said that Tommy Robinson shouldn’t have formed a racist and fascist organisation in response – but in response to what? To another organisation that, in the racist and fascist stakes, far exceeds anything that Pegida and Tommy Robinson could ever conceive. There’s some very wonky thinking here – and some curiously self-destructive loyalties.
Islamists are a threat to the west, it's undeniable. But putting your faith in someone like TR to resolve it is both desperate and naive. At the risk of invoking Godwin's law, I'm sure lots of people saw Hitler as a solution to the perceived problems of Jewish immigrants in the 1930s. Radical opinions are NOT the answer to radical problems.
That wasn't a throwaway sound bite - just a statement of fact, It’s not a case of putting one’s ‘faith’ in Tommy Robinson to solve the problem - I don't think anyone is doing that - but if someone, whoever he may be, is talking sense, why condemn him? Truth is truth and right is right – and in this instance he is speaking the truth – and he is right.
I'm surprised at you N. I credit you with being able to think between the lines but you seem to be being taken in by TR's self serving speeches. His rhetoric is designed to appeal to the majority of us who are already sick to the back teeth of the Islamist / Muslim influences on our country but he has another self serving agenda which is obvious to anyone who knows his history. He will hitch his xenophobic cart to any popularist bandwagon to give himself and his ideals the oxygen of publicity. Why do,you think he's changed tack so many times? He just needs a political tide of opinion to promote himself and his right wing extremism to. And those who say he's speaking sense need to wake up and rialise it.
