Pegida To Launch In U K

Tommy Robinson will be the face of Pegida in the UK. Athe founder of the EDL, it appears he has renounced his past. Has he grown up enough to take on his new task though....?

I'd never heard of this guy until he started popping up on AB now and then. I heard him speak on the R4 one evening this week and taken at face value everything he said made absolute sense. To add a large number of people did bad stuff when they were young or held extreme views, people can mellow. I mean, I used to vote Labour.

The slurs begin in the first sentence from the BBC. Pegida is not an "anti-Islamist" movement' it is against the "Islamisation" of the Western world, demanding more restrictive immigration rules, particularly for Muslims refusing to integrate. It has not, for example, suggested that existing mosques should be closed, but that there are sufficient already, and Saudi Arabia's offer to finance the building of a further 250 in the UK alone should be resisted.

Yes, of course he should be allowed to lead a protest, the first of many to come. Time will tell as to how peaceful the protest will actually be especially given the level of expected confrontation and the declarations of nimbyism etc.
As to the OP of whether Robinson has now 'grown up' enough will be met with much distrust because of his past and some present beliefs. On the other hand his views will be shared by a large section too.
Khandro makes a good point regarding misrepresentation.
Naomi - thank you ;)

Has he grown up ?
Well, he was a Member of the BNP and helped found the EDL, so his racist and fascist credentials are well established. He is also an ex-convict, being responsible for violence crimes and fraud.
He now appears to be bringing a German racist organisation to Britain.
So, not sure if he has "grown up" or not but he seems to have learned nothing from his past. He seems to be the same articulate mouth-on-a-stick that he always was.
Same old Tommy it would seem.

///Robinson founded the EDL in 2009, after Islamist extremists shouted abuse at troops during a march in his home town of Luton.///
We all know the EDL went wrong quite quickly, but do you not think he had the right reasons for forming it or is it ok in your book, for our Troops to be abused by immigrants when in their home Country?
