There's also a good chance that Charles takes his clogs before his Mama, the last time that happened being George II to George III - with us missing out on a King Arthur.

Not quite, we missed out on a King Frederick. Had he not predeceased his father Henry VII would have been succeeded by King Arthur and not Henry VIII. A few folk might have kept their heads a little longer.

George VII is the preferred moniker for Charles III - after all, Charley Rexs in the past haven't done that well.

As to other names for the Queen, Private Eye's Brenda is perhaps more fitting than Betty.

Apparently Diana used to refer to the Queen privately as Brenda.

It is a sad but inevitable fact that the next decade or so will see a spate of royal funerals. Apart from HM and HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, those of the Queen's generation are now elderly. The Duke and Duchess of Kent are in their 80's, Princess Alexandra of Kent is almost there; the youngest is the Duke (Prince Richard) of Gloucester at a young 72.
