Once more the French have carried out a 'U' turn in their effort to bulldoze part of the Calais jungle.

Who much longer are the people of Calais going accept the total destruction of their town?

Moving away from French grammar for a moment: "It's not automatic that the LeTouquet treaty would dissolve if there was a brexit and with Eurotunnel and the ferries being liable to a €2700 fine for each unauthorised passenger, it SHOULD be self policing. " It most certainly is not automatic. Firstly the agreement is a bilateral agreement between the UK and...

What a very strange fellow! Are you English?

are you maybe unfamiliar with the last 10mn of "Holy Grail"?
I confess I am relying on (fading!) memory here, not seen that wonderful film for about ten years!
Andy, I thought you knew Python when you said 'is there anyone else we can speak to?'
//CALAIS descended into open warfare last night as thousands of migrants rampaged through the town yelling "UK! UK!" as they made their way back to the crime-ridden Jungle camp//

I see the thread has quickly descended into mockery and cant. Don't forget where these 'migrants' (invaders) are headed. Of course once they get here they will become model citizens, shunning all criminal intent and contributing in their excitingly diverse ways to the betterment and elevation of civilisation in the UK. Just prey that the French don't throw in the towel, as many on this side of the channel seem to have.

Like many of my generation, there were times when I could reel off screeds of script word-perfect, but sadly, lack of exposure (oo-er!) to the source, and fading memory makes my recall a little shakey , know warrImean nudge nudge!!

Say no MORE!
Mush, so you suggest they'd rather face fines than implement tighter security? It's all moot anyway.

I can still sing the Philosophers' Song verbatim, which I last performed 40 years ago.
A small contribution to an earlier point - where I lived in France I reckon about 50% of French people managed nicely on Present Tense, Perfect Tense and forming a Future Tense with 'aller'; plus plenty of patois! Because I could use a few other formations I was regarded as speaking extremely good French even when I made lots of mistakes. Handy! :)

indeed. but what i'm saying is that if security costs fell to the carriers, the resultant increased cost of taking your car abroad would outstrip the cost of flying and hiring a car.

looks like the court says "oui" - although public areas won't be touched...
Retro-French then - as it very much is.
jim 12: 57 has it - jackdaws quote is a bit ' Allo Allo'

se rendant does not even mean surrender it means 'going'

The French verb to surrender is " Abandon"

The monkeys are eating 'cheese' not 'The Cheese'
