yes Ratter but as this appears to be some sort of church inspired escapade we can assume that his god agrees with the sentence or he'd have used some of his omnipotence to help the lad out.
He stole the "trophy" after his church asked him to, so they could put it on the church wall. He obviously feared them more than the North Koreans- until he was caught of course.
