Why do our dignitaries (i.e Prince William's Mrs this week) pander to foreign countries when they visit them by wearing clothes befitting to that country?

I don't ever see foreign leaders wearing jeans and trainers when they visit the UK

/// How about a 3 piece suit , bowler hat , black leather shoes and a rolled umbrella? ///

No only Chris Eubank dresses that way these days.

Lol @ aog.
anotheoldgit, // The press described the mode of dress she wore when meeting the street urchin children as 'Dressing Down' now that is patronising if nothing more. //

That's not patronising. It's sensitive and diplomatic.
I think it was patronising, O_G to wear an Indian style dress that no Indian woman would wear. I understand that she didn't want to look too dressed up when visiting people who have nothing, but went too far the other way. She could have worn her usual style, but a cheaper label instead of a designer. The cost of that terrible dress she wore could have fed the whole village for a month at least.
Sorry, my reply should have been to aog, not O_G.
Cloverjo //The cost of that terrible dress she wore could have fed the whole village for a month at least. //

The cost of any dress she wears would probably have fed the whole village for a month - or more - but a hair shirt wouldn't cure the problem, and neither would it suit her.
I agree, Naomi, but the dress was like something a gap year student would wear while backpacking. She tried to fit in with the locals but it didn't work on any level.
naomi24

I still maintain it was patronising, if she had worn her normal mode of dress, the street children would not have even noticed, and as you have already stated "even a hair shirt wouldn't cure the problem"
We've become top notch at pandering thanks to our wonderful floods of immigrants...it would seem they now expect it as a right
// Alas, too few Romans, but shiploads of Romanians.//

oo- jackie how silly your comments are !
everyone knows that the Romans went back - but the Romanians are showing no signs of .... and the impt question is - what will they wear when they do ?

( DOI jaundiced view of Romanians having been mugged by one )
Why do the royals pander to other countries? They are good at it......... Had plenty practice. Kate looks like she raided the " Indian dressing up box "
Its 31c in India & Kate is wearing coooool chiffon. She aint wearing saris! Pandering is for trade like now defunct TaTa.

Question Author
It's embarrassing

We feel the need to respect their customs/way of life but do they respect ours???

Answers on a postcard please

If this is the dress that has caused the complaints, I really don't see what the problem is. It's dignified and, since she ended up sitting cross-legged on the floor with the children, very practical.

Had she arrived dripping in diamonds there would have been cause for complaint - but she didn't, so there isn't - in my opinion.
Brittish national dress would be a kilt, hankies and bells, daffodil and leak button hole while playing the harp and dancing to river dance
Steg...ruddy hell, not bloody Morris Dancing....please !
Oops brittish ? Lol missed the " I " between the t's
Well mikey I think some people don't know the difference between english and British
