I Was Going To Give It Another Try...
I have not been to a cinema since 1979. I was thinking of giving it another try. But I'm afraid they've blown it now:

NJ...If you go to the pictures, you will have to put up with the constant slurping and masticating, as people seem to view a trip to the cinema as an ideal time to have dinner.

Thanks all. A bit of levity to brighten the day.
Yes Mikey, it was the eating and drinking that initially put me off the cinema (apart from the fact that there were few if any films I wanted to see). This latest "development" from the cinema boss puts the tin lid on it.
He notes that it is no use telling a 22 year old to turn his mobile off. Well he should think again. Because bad manners become the norm there is no need to legislate for them!
As an aside, I'm strongly of the belief that the use of mobile phones has now developed into a serious mental illness.

I forgot to add that the Ritz in Wallsend is indeed a Wetherspoon's:

I think the last “grown-up” film I saw at the cinema (didn’t want to say “adult” film) was The Dead Zone, although I did take my children when they were young.
I have had an email from my daughter this morning asking me to go and see the new Jungle Book film with her, having seen a preview whilst on holiday a couple of weeks ago.
Wouldn’t mind seeing it, but not keen on the idea of sitting in a room full of texters, munchers, and masticators!
Agree with naomi about the theatre. Hate it when people use their phone a restaurant too. I think it’s rude.

What did I see in 1979?
"Murder by Decree" starring Christpher Plummer and James Mason:

The people have spoken. Hopefully not in the cinema, though.

Last film I saw in a cinema was Julia Roberts in something about a runaway bride, it was in Times Square in NY with my daughter in her gap year, probably 2000. Before that, I can't remember - at least another 10 years, I think. As a teenager used to go twice a week.
OH and late wife used to go every week about 25 years ago.
Mercie for the info about salad boxes, by the way!
