I have not been to a cinema since 1979. I was thinking of giving it another try. But I'm afraid they've blown it now:

NJ...If you go to the pictures, you will have to put up with the constant slurping and masticating, as people seem to view a trip to the cinema as an ideal time to have dinner.

I wouldn't bother anyway. It costs a fortune.
The sound is now so loud I doubt you could have a phone conversation anyway.
Me too, NJ. I went to see Life of Brian in 1979. Cost me 60p to get in.
Does he really think young people say to themselves I'm not going to the cinema just because I can't use my phone? What a load of garbage.
It sounds horrible nowadays. I was looking forward to going to the 'flicks' when we came back from France- but I don't fancy trying it now.

Last film I saw in cinema was the second (I think) of the Indiana Jones films, I was sat there thinking 'I'll bet the next time the scene changes the Germans will be coming over the hill in tanks' the scene changed, and the Germans were coming over the hill in tanks. I excused myself to go to the loo, the rest of the family found me in the Pub next door about an hour+ later.
I go to a smallish cinema in Dundee at the Dundee Contemporary Arts Centre. Citizen Kane club is on a Thursday morning when old timers like me get in for £5 with a cup of tea and a biscuit thrown in. Have seen Bridge of Spies, The Lady in the Van and Sunset Song recently - all excellent films. I agree about the volume - I normally wear a hearing aid but take it out!
As long theatres don't take up the idea, I really don't care.
Anyone remember the ABC minors on a Saturday morning?
Yes, Jack, I used to go every week.
Ah yes, Jackdaw - Captain Marvel!
SHAZAM !
We formed little groups. Each would contribute a penny or so to let one boy get in. He would then go straight to the toilet, open the fire door and let the rest of us in free. Happy days.

Most of the Parisian populace are not very complimentary of ' le flics' and their salad boxes!!! :-)
Retro, you know as well as I do that 'flics' has a different meaning in French.
I hate going to the cinema nowadays. Too wide screens, seating too close. Makes me feel nauseous. Last film I watched at the pictures was Gosford Park. I prefer a DVD at home. At least I can pause for a pint and a pee.

Fully aware of that. Do you know what the salad boxes were though?
Boite de Salad. :-)
