It's quite clear ummmm, how can 4 year olds know about 20+ genders and be expected to categorize themselves into one? I don't know about 20 "genders". There are only 2 genders anyway. There may be variations on those but they are not genders.
Yes Gromit I went to school, we were one of 2 genders in those days.

There aren't "only two genders", but never mind. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask the question -- whether children as young as four can give a sensible answer I'm not sure. At that age I would have thought it better for the school not to ask, really, but to discuss the issues openly if someone brings them up.

In point of fact, most of the "bullying and misery" such children experience is the product of children listening to parents who object to that sort of thing. You'd be amazed how uninterested children are if they aren't told it's something to be seen as different or abnormal.
