Should Britain First Use Lee Rigby's Name In Their Campaigns?

Lee Rigby's family have repeatedly asked Britain First not to use their son's name in their broadcast and online materials, but they have ignored this.

As Lee is a national public figure, are BF right to go ahead and include references to him - or should they take into account the wishes of his family?

jno - //I can't see why not. Rigby was a grown man. At some point, parents cease to have proprietorial rights over their children's identity. // That is true, but when their child meets a violent end at the hands of murderers, then the moral right to defend the use of his name by a fascist organisation surely reverts back to them? No doubt Lee Rigby would speak for...

/// A party political broadcast is a TV
advert. ///

Pity they don't confuse things and state what it really is then?

"We now have a Party Political Advert, on behalf of the Britain First Party".

Rather than:

"We now have a Party Political Broadcast, on behalf of the Britain First Party".
AOG, perhaps they mistakenly assume that people are brighter than they are.

Party Political Broadcasts = Adverts.

What other reason can you think of for them?
Baldric; // please stop trying to divert a perfectly good thread by stating facts ;o) //

Sorry about that momentary lack of concentration!
But full marks for spotting the flag, it took a bit of mental unwinding of it, but you are correct.

/// AOG.......... I am perfectly happy with the word fascist to be associated with the BF. If it walks like a duck.....! ///

"Walks like a duck", crikey mikey, you have heard something have you.

Perhaps you will now be good enough to tell us what you know about Britain First, have they committed any heinous crimes, in fact have they actually killed anyone?

Have they done anything more than march in a mob like fashion, waving a few flags and banners etc?

Please give me some definite proof why I should hate them so much, in fact hate them more than the ones they are protesting against?
BF's use of Lee is at the very heart of what is so obnoxious about the organization. They have misappropriated Lee, just as they have the Crown and the Poppy, to perpetuate that loathsome views.

They have been very adept at using social media, and the spread of their poison has been insidious. Someone said that a picture paints a thousand words, and BF have taken that on board in spades.

Khandro,
After almost 20 years as a Royal Marine, you do tend to notice things like that.
AOG...do your own research, as I have done, as I am too busy.

Or you could try reading your own copy of the DM, which seems to hit the nail on the head.

After all, you are one of the DMs greatest fans, are you not !
Mikey, //BF's use of Lee is at the very heart of what is so obnoxious about the organization. //

Why? I don't understand that.
Naomi...because they misappropriate images, in an attempt to give their organisation a veneer of respectability that they don't deserve.

Read the Wiki entry...its all there.

For those who have unfriended people on social media for sharing BF content, I think you might be a little harsh. Their modus operandi is to take innocuous images and post 'Share if you like...'

For some reason, they even used Lynda Bellingham's death to spread their word.

That being said, earlier it was pointed out that it would be entirely appropriate to refer to the murder of Lee Rigby, but what his family object to is his imagery being used in their literature, because (as they have pointed out) he didn't believe in what they stood for.

Therefore, common courtesy would suggest they refrain from mentioning him by name.
Mikey, //...because they misappropriate images//

They haven't misappropriated Lee Rigby's image.

In answer to your earlier question, Far Right groups are often called 'fascist' and Far Left groups are often called 'commie' or 'pinko'.

They have.

On their Facebook page.

Repeatedly.

/// They have misappropriated Lee, just as they have the Crown and the Poppy, to perpetuate that loathsome views. ///

No they have not misappropriated or even misinterpreted two loathsome happening that actually took place, are we not to protest at such things.

Perhaps the Junior Doctors, or Students be criminalised or called Far-Left Fascists for daring to stage protests?

But not too busy to keep replying to my posts I see, except when it come to supplying actual proof of what you are rigorously maintaining.

/// Or you could try reading your own copy of the DM, which seems to hit the nail on the head. ///

Firstly I do not possess "my own copy of the Daily Express".

And just as I use it's web site from time to time, doesn't make me one of it's greatest fans, but I am also not hypocritical enough to recommend it, as some choose to do, only when it supports my own particular chosen agenda.
SP, I don't use Facebook. I assume they've used the image, but how have they misappropriated it?

/// In answer to your earlier question, Far Right groups are often called 'fascist' and Far Left groups are often called 'commie' or 'pinko'. ///

'Commie and 'Pinko' seem almost endearing descriptions not so the harsh 'Fascist' and sometimes Nazis.

But the Communists, are a much more frightening set of individuals, why their first act was to cold bloodily murder their Tzar, his wife and children, only to go on and commit even more atrocities under the leadership of evil 'Uncle Joe'.

Not forgetting the left's misuse of the word Nazi, it did of course mean a member of the National Socialist German Workers' Party.

Couldn't get any more left than that.
Fascinating!
sp; I don't think a "pinko" is "far" left, they might be far left (communist) sympathisers, but not actually communists, hence the "pink" - like, not quite red. :0)
