It was widely discussed locally of course and even before going to trial most people, women included, thought that the charge was wrong and the verdict a flawed one. How could anyone think that the ruination of a young mans life, due to a very contentious prosecution, is not worth him fighting. Would you not take every step to you if it was your son or brother. A very illuminating fact to consider. The family of Evans's fiancée, themselves quite well off and thought highly of in the local community, have stood behind him from day one. It would have been much easier for them to drop him like a hot potato. I promise that, according to the general consensus in the surrounding area that the rape was alleged to have taken place, that there is more to the story than is obvious from what we are told by the official version.

That simply means that there is a lot of inevitable local gossip and rumour about the circumstances involved.
The court will have heard evidence, facts, and testimony, and made its judgement accordingly.
Trial by rumour does not happen - fortunately.

I would suggest that this is not an 'illuminating fact'.
If Mr Evans' family decide that they wish to support him, then that is simply their choice - it does not infer that he is any less guilty of the crime for which he was convicted, simply that they have decided that it does not adversely affect their view of him.
That is their choice - but it has no bearing on his guilt and conviction, or his appeal.

Togo - //How very glib ^^ //
How is it 'glib'?
The definition of the word is that it means superficial or shallow - I fail to see why either of those adjectives describes my post - if anything, such a description is more pertinent to your own post.
But do please explain why you feel it applies to mine.

"Why doesn't he just forget it".
What an absolutely moronic thing to say.
He very clearly felt he did not rape that woman, and as such he fought to clear his name. I would do exactly the same and would never just 'forget it', and anybody who did decide to just forget it even though they were convinced that they were innocent would be an incredibly weak person.
Ched Evans is now innocent - and unless/until the re-trial finds him guilty, he will remain innocent. Should the re-trial return a not guilty verdict i sincerely hope he will be able to resume his career.

Do you think that there will be a re-trial Dd? More likely that the "case will be dropped, to bury the new evidence which may well be an embarrassment to the police or even the cps. Have we not seen recent cases highlighted, where "facts" presented to the court mysteriously omitted details that were deemed to be unhelpful in securing a prosecution.
