Retrocop - in reference to the Chief Constable of South Yorkshire's suspension - //Why has this man got to be the scapegoat and fall on his sword.// It is nothing to do with being a 'scapegoat' - it is to do with being head of an organisation which is revealed to have wilfully obstructed the inquest in its investigations, and continued the entire tragic...

TTT you are so right - a jury of 6 women and 3 men in Warrington (not too far from Liverpool?)
And now the decision they were unlawfully killed. Is this a mandate for the CPS to go after Mr Duckenfield all these years on?
I really think that an Inquest of such importance as this should have been heard by a High Court Judge not by a jury of lay people.

I daresay there'll be a clamouring for prosecutions of the Police as they held public office.
If so, I hope the lack of prosecutions of those involved at Heysel will be revisited.
No one denies the Police had major failings that day. IMHO it was just pure bad luck, lack or loss of control and fear of how fans notoriously behaved in the 80's that brought about the disaster. The families are vindicated, the Police pilloried. Those wronged have rightly had their pound of flesh and fought hard for it. Let it rest now, please.

That's how I see things, chilli. An unfortunate set of circumstances that led to a tragedy. It's very easy, sat in your armchair with the benefit of hindsight, to say the police should have done this or not done that. Imo, they responded as best they could to the situation they found themselves in. If that makes me 'a pub bore', so be it.
