I must say that Jews do not seem to command the same support that is afforded Muslims here on AB. Or maybe I'm wrong?

ah jno the old Zionism cobblers. These people and several on this site openly say they want Israel wiped off the map. I'd say that's anti Semitic regardless of your's and gromit's semantics. The 4 by 2s where offered lots of places but insisted on "the promised land" - (though I would agree that they should logically have been given part of Germany)
I'd agree that some people who are anti-Israel are too keen on the "some of my best friends are Jews" line (a sure-fire way of telling an anti-Semite, etc). But it has to be possible to criticise Israel legitimately without being accused of antisemitism, for example by noting the, small(ish), number of various UN resolutions that apply to Israel and that they've generally paid little attention to (such as UNSC resolutions 42, 44, 45, 46, 48, 49, 50, 53, 54, 56, 57, 59, 60, 61, ..., 89, 92, 93, 101, 106, 111, 127, 162, 171, 228, 233, 234, 235, 236, 237, 242, 248, 250, 251, 252, 256, 258, 259, 262, 265, 267, 270, 271, 279, 280, 285, 298, 313, 316, 317, 332, 337 (we still haven't left the 1970s, by the way), 347, 425 (passed in 1978, asking Israel to withdraw from Lebanon, which they did... 22 years later), 427, 434, 444, 446, 450, 452, 465, 467, 468, 469, 471, 476, 478, 484, 487, 497, 498, 501, 508, 509, 515, 516, 517, 518, 519, 520... and at about this point I'm tired of running through the complete list of 225 UNSC Resolutions that Israel has largely just ignored.)
Or one could draw attention to the Golan Heights, that is occupied territory that Israel has consistently refused to withdraw from, and indeed is planning further occupation (or, if you prefer, settlement), programs, announced recently as well asfor all of the 35+ years in which, despite being recognised as part of Syria (or what's left of it), Israel has held on to (again, see something in the region of 30 of the resolutions above demanding that Israel let go; it hasn't).
Or is pointing that out anti-Semitic? Surely not. It's a simple statement of fact.

I suppose I should qualify the above by saying that a) I don't for one moment think that the MP's tweet is at all defensible; b) I think that the claim of Israel defending itself is at least partly legitimate (although a lot of this mess could have been avoided if "Israel" were somewhere else), and c) compared with, say, the nearby mess of other middle-Eastern countries Israel is pretty stable, and does at least hold itself to account some of the time. Their contempt for the UN isn't unique to Israel either; whatever you think of the Iraq War, UNSC Resolution 1441 was something like the last of 25-odd resolutions that they ignored, and many of the Resolutions I cited above were also ignored by Israel's combatants).
Also, I have an embarrassingly pro-Palestinian, global conspiracy theory-advocating nutter of a relative who rather puts me off at least the idea of unconditional support for Palestine and condemnation of Israel (and I'm not kidding, he's genuinely come out with that "some of my best friends are Jews" line, while also cursing Jewry for its world-order domination or some crap).

Hard to argue with that... 1441, the one used to justify invading Iraq, concluded, I think, with some threat that "If the Iraqi government fails to comply with this resolution we shall have no choice but to meet again and discuss it." (or words to that effect).
The UN has done a lot of good, but it's pretty poor at dealing with, at least local, territorial disputes and military action. Anything where Russia, China and the US disagree (which is most things).
