Not sure what is wrong here. This little lad looks very neat and tidy to me !
I had hair only marginally longer when I was a lad in the 50's.

can't see anything wrong with it, i see loads of children with number 1 2 or 3 haircut length very sensible, less for the nits to cling to .

This later article has more information.
>Joshua's mother Claire Reape, 26, was told to change her son's hair over the weekend or he wouldn't be allowed back to Abbey Catholic Primary School in Erdington, Birmingham.
It also has a statement from the school:
>A spokesperson for Abbey Catholic Primary School said: 'The school has a strict school uniform policy which all pupils and their families are made aware of when they join the school.
'A child attended school on Friday with a hair style that was unacceptable and his mother was asked to change his hair style in line with school policy.'
It seems a bit heavy handed if he was only given the weekend to change it, and assuming they gave no guidance as to what changes needed to be made over the weekend. However I still think there may be more to this story than we are told here.

It seems he ( mum and/or maybe Dad?) was given a choice- get it cut to a uniform length or be suspended for a week. Mum seems to have chosen the suspension as she said "I can't fix it without shaving it all off which I don't want to do.'
It seems it's a good school. If she doesn't like the policy I'm sure there is a school that is satisfactory or requires improvement which has less less strict policies.
I think the best way to deal with these things is by discussion rather than going to the press and taking a stance against your child's school and exposing him to publicity.
