Perhaps because, in the end, they work better than people want to believe they do. Certainly it's punchier to sell the "we are doomed if we live message" as opposed to a somewhat more long-winded technical explanation of why EU regulation 17.53B, II (iv) acts in our best interests when weighed against the superseded Housing (England) Act 1997, section 4 subsection II, (vii).

Had he said that we would be much better off leaving, Rees Mogg (and the rest of the Brexits) would have welcomed his comments. For every 'expert. who warns what could happen in one particular scenario, there is another ready to warn what could happen in another. Those of us yet to make up our minds are no more enlightened by all this!
