Apparently this is not the first time that Britain First has been chucked out of Leicester, but this time they had returned for a spot of Brexit campaigning on Saturday and set up one table just to handout their leaflets.

/// City mayor Sir Peter Soulsby told Britain First chairman Paul Golding head to head: "This is a multi racial city and you are not welcome here. ///

/// "I have a mandate from 77,000 voters and I say on their behalf, leave Leicester." ///

Would that be the whole 77,000 Sir Peter?

/// Hospital worker Noormohammed Geloo, 23 from Highfields said: "All people are welcome in Leicester as long as they respect one another. ///

That is so accommodating of you Mr Geloo.

/// Plumber Ali Akbar, 29, of Belgrave Road, who also challenged Mr Golding face to face, said: "I have a white auntie. The vast majority of Muslims love this country. ///

Ah yes that old one again "some of my best friends are white".

Mikey > BF never does anything peacefully. Their purpose is to cause as much trouble and racial strife as possible

Neither do their opponents whose arrests usually outnumber BF's. Not to mention the 'peaceful' action of the woman who broke through the cordon and upturned BF's stall!
BF never does anything peacefully. Their purpose is to cause as much trouble and racial strife as possible.

I believe the current inability by the government to deal with immigration properly and the crisis it's currently in are more to blame. Recent voting patterns in Austria and France are testament to that.
Not sure why anybody is defending this awful person and his fascist Party.

Its very difficult to reason with thugs. But the Police seems to have got it right...telling BF to leave, and then arresting Golding.
Chilldoubt, good point. There can be no doubt of the rise and depth of feeling on this issue and the lack of effective collective handling of the crisis.

BF and similar do not have the clout to make a significant change in the UK but times are changing across Europe and Austria were a sliver away from appointing a Far Right President.
Mikey > Not sure why anybody is defending this awful person and his fascist Party.

Mikey, it's not a case of defending Golding and BF. It is a case of defending their right to free speech and the mayor of Leicester has overstepped his mark by trying to dictate who sets foot in the city.
Has Liz Kendall more right to appear in Leicester city centre than Paul Golding?
agchristie....I have been warning against the rise of the Ultra Right in Europe for years. Now that the BNP is effectively finished as a political force, its really only BF that we have left to carry on the work of the work of the thug, John Tyndall and the NF.

The Ultra Right always fail in this country....perhaps because there are not enough racists to make a difference.
agchristie...as the elected Mayor of the city, Soulsby had every right to express his opinion, an opinion that seemed to be echoed by most people.

Anyway, its the Police that had the last word, and they acted entirely correctly as far as I can see.

This is the second time they have had to act. Perhaps we should be condemning the Police for preventing further violence and disorder ?
Mikey > perhaps because there are not enough racists to make a difference.

Hell of a lot more racists exposed right across Europe then....

These foreign governments need to get their fingers out fast...
Agchristie.....you mentioned Liz Kendall. Here is her Wiki entry :::

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liz_Kendall

Why should she not be granted to right to appear and speak to the people of the city where she is an elected MP ?
...Soulsby had every right to express his opinion...

Of course, but he does not have the right to tell whoever should or should not appear in Leicester.
agchristie...."These foreign governments need to get their fingers out fast"

Well, I trust we can both agree on that !
Well, Soulsby did, but it wasn't him that got arrested was it !
Mikey > Why should she not be granted to right to appear and speak to the people of the city where she is an elected MP ?

That is not what I stated. I asked the question why she has more right than Golding to be seen in Leicester? Being the cities MP does not accord her special appearance rights.
Kendall and Soulsby do not have a mandate to speak for the entire city.
My best guess on that last question is that she is the elected MP, with 46% of the vote in May 2015, an increase of 8.7% on 2010. Not a bad mandate, would you not agree ?

Golding can't get himself, or any other member of his party elected, anywhere.

These visitors to Leicester were not breaking any Laws.
The Mayor does not have the right to decide who visits his City.
They were surrounded by an angry mob.
Sounds to me like the Police weren't doing their job properly if they allowed that to happen.
Mikey, agree, a comfortable seat but spin it another way, more than half of the city do not support her!
Ag....I'm not sure we are really getting anywhere here !

But at least we both seem to be against the rise of the Ultra/Far Right, which is the most important issue I guess.
Mikey, I am all for freedom of speech. Immigration is a big big issue for so many people that it is no surprise at the reaction across Europe.

I have little time for Golding but equally it disappoints me when I hear the views of the Leicester mayor.
