I have always wondered what Ozzie crocs get to eat, when there aren't any stupid tourists around.

According to a report on the radio earlier, the area is known for crocodiles, so, yes she was stupid ! Feel sorry for her though.

the MP said there were lots of signs around and the women "must have seen them". That doesn't mean they did, though. Personally, I wouldn't go swimming anywhere much in Australia after dark without checking everything, but Australians themselves may well be more blasé about it.
I do see a slight difference between tourists going for a swim for pleasure and refugees trying to escape war zones, though.

Have just watched the local news here in Ozland and the locals were agreeing that while the beach was most picturesque they wouldn't risk swimming there because of the crocs ...and I didn't see any warning signs.
The woman who was taken came from country NSW ... But anyone who swims in north Qld has got to be nuts !!!

seekeerz....nice to get a Ozzie opinion about this case !
This area of North Queensland is famous for salties, and I am in complete agreement with the local politician that this woman took a stupid risk.
Its dreadfully sad of course but its entirely her own fault. Perhaps it will be a lesson for other people not to make the same mistake.

They are still protected, presumably endangered, but there must be a fair few of them as the news stories say the numbers have boomed.
