Domination through the back door helped of course by those wonderful turncoats the French who have collaborated with former enemies to try & grab a piece of the former GREAT BRITAIN. Remain, you want your heads looking at.
Kathyan...I am in complete agreement with all of the STAY camps reasons, and these are easily found on the 'net. For instance, read the booklet that the Government has sent you, and its all there.
In addition, during the de-industrialisation polices of the 80's and 90's, it was the EU that helped us here in Wales to keep our heads above water.
Without EU money, the recovery from this period of high unemployment and urban decay would have taken far longer.
I am not sure I can add anything more !

Baldric...I have no confidence that enough money would have been used to help mostly Labour-voting areas around Britain whose economies were wrecked by the de-industrialisation polices.
I repeat that here in Wales, we have a lot to thank the EU for, but I don't expect that you will agree with that !

Mikey, //I am in complete agreement with all of the STAY camps reasons, and these are easily found on the 'net. For instance, read the booklet that the Government has sent you, and its all there. //
I read it and it says "The UK is a strong independent nation". That isn't true so why do you believe it?

Old white men are possibly a problem because many of them refuse to accept the drivel they are fed without making a few enquiries and thinking for themselves.
“It is my belief that what you have just said is scaremongering rhetoric.”
Despite some of the undoubted scaremongering we’ve witnessed over the past few weeks, Mikey, Balders is on safe ground. The contracting out of the governance of the UK began long ago. I won’t compile an exhaustive list (I’ve only got 4,000 characters) but to mention a few issues over which the elected UK government has no control:
- We cannot implement our own tax regime
- We cannot negotiate our own trade agreements
- We cannot decide who does and does not settle here from within the EU
- We cannot determine what, if anything, those foreigners receive in benefits
- We cannot determine who catches fish in our own territorial waters
- We cannot decide whether to allow GM crops or not
- We cannot determine how much farmland must be left fallow in order to qualify for subsidy (which has been funded by UK taxpayers).
- British courts cannot halt the extradition of people to other EU states. Unlike under UK law, no prima facie evidence has to be made available before they are committed to a foreign court where the standards of justice are, shall we say, not quite so high as those in the UK.
Other areas where European laws hold sway or influence include data protection, immigration law, asylum law, criminal justice, broadcasting, biotechnology, and some areas of family law.
EU Law governing all of the above holds supremacy over UK law. Our own courts are not the final arbiters of all these (and many other) matters determined by the EU. The European Court of Justice is.
What I have listed is not conjecture; this is fact; it is evident now. All these areas of influence, some of which are far reaching and effect almost everybody, are direct results of our membership of the EU. The full list is far longer and will get longer still when the EU encroaches further still into Defence, Immigration, Tax and Foreign policies.
If you think the current list of areas which the EU controls is complete, think again. Look at the difference between its influence 40, 30 and 20 years ago and consider how it will develop in 20, 30 and 40 years from now. So your belief that Baldric is scaremongering is misplaced. You need to consider whether you are quite happy to see vast areas of governance sub-contracted out to unelected foreigners over whom you have no control whatsoever.
So come on Mikey. You keep saying you’re voting to stay. I’ve given numerous detailed examples of why that is not a good idea. How about you giving us some clues as to why you think it is.
BTW, Happy Birthday for Saturday!
