Ali will probably be remembered as one of the greatest, maybe THE greatest boxers of all time, and why not. But he was a role model for every young black person growing up at the time in America. I listened to Rev. Jessie Jackson being interviewed on the Today Program this morning, and was amazed by what life was like for young Cassius Clay....he couldn't eat in...
I doubt they will show the racist views that Ali expressed on the Parky show, Chrissa. I find it quite perplexing how racism is excused/forgiven if you're a global superstar.
Yes Ali or Cassius as he was then had to endure awful racism but he hardly covered himself in glory on how he chose to combat that racism.
AOG...Ali was known for much more than "bashing the hell out of a fellow human-being", and 5 minutes spent doing some simple research would have told you that.
Poor taste on your part, mikey, bringing your juvenile politics into this thread. And a bloody disgrace you got the Best Answer for it. How low can the left sink?
I can remember being surprised when he said it but just thought he was expressing, His, thoughts on the matter and not saying it was wrong for everybody.
Ali spoke out on uncomfortable truths and fair play to him for that but the uncomfortable truth is that Ali held many racist views. If those views were expressed by an ABer he/she would without a shadow of a doubt be called racist!
I don't see why because a person has died uncomfortable truths should not be heard. I stand by what I say, Truths should not not buried just because you are world famous.
If people just want RIP what a nice man/woman threads then maybe the ED should introduce a new 'RIP' topic where onlly gushing accolades are allowed.
