divebuddy - //Andy. Interesting that you compare AB debating with school. But, yes, that's sort of what I mean. A bit like a discussion about sex takes a turn for the worse if your parents join in. //

I didn't compare it with school, I compared it with the very specific scenario when a teacher intrudes on a specific pupil-centric situation where free conversation is curtailed by the intrusion of an adult trying to be 'down with the kids'.

I think that's about as far from this scenario as you can get!

divebuddy - //If you say so, Andy. //

Not at all - just my opinion - as it always is.

Morning retrocop, tongue in cheek comments have fallen out of favour here recently.

I think AOG meant it, as he has for the last decade.//

Good morning AB Editor
Thank you for the update. It was the first I heard that.
As you have known Mr aog for a decade or more I will bow down to your knowledge as to what he may or may have not meant.
Anyway DB - do you have an opinion? Baz has gone for the "no context" posting style favoured by some (and discouraged in our guidelines). Good title though!

Personally I don't think it's particular xeniphobic to not want lots of poor people who don't share your culture in your country.

But then, it's also not very empathetic to those fleeing for safety.

Maybe France should take a look at how the Kenyans handle this problem. As it has been alledged for some time now that the Refugee Camps on the French Coast also harbour Terror suspects.
Retro, I have inflated that a little bit to be honest, but only by a matter of months. Maybe we should celebrate our anniversary him winding me up and me deleting his posts?

Such is the circle of life.

Xenophobia exists in all areas of the world.
I have lived in Central Africa, the distrust and outright hatred towards those who originate from a different country / tribe is far worse than between us in Europe.
I was in Zambia but just 3 miles from the border with Zaire (Congo).
The Zambian government was pretty much honest and based on UK law/ values , it is a Commonwealth nation.
Zaire however was and is totally corrupt. I was offered a Zairian diplomatic passport and £50,000 for agreeing to sign a document that placed a Copper ore deposit 100 meters North so that it was classified as being in Zaire's territory. I refused to do it and walked out of the discussion.

Agreed, nor do I. Some contributors on the "bank" do vehemently disagree though.
Depends on the reasons really doesn't it Togo?

If it's "cos they're savages" - then that's pretty xenophobic.

If it's "social and economic pressures of looking after those seeking asylum could cause damage to the local area, and then wider" than that's not quite as nasty is it?

That is an argument that has been put forward many times on this site but then those who support that premise are considered a little more than 'nasty' by others.! The OP title would seem appropriate to the accusations made here.
How very true Ed. Of course the behavior of so many of the "asylum seekers" does suggest that the perceptions of what constitutes civilised or acceptable to the indigenous people of many European Countries is under threat, regardless of their initial willingness to assist. Still it will even itself out, either the incomers will become more European in their outlook or the Europeans will become more like them.

/// Bang a different drum AOG :) you've worn that one out... ///

Why do you always openly pick me out Ed?

There are plenty of others on both sides of the political spectrum that say much worse than I.

If I have broke some kind of site rule then just remove my post as is norm.

Your openly criticism of me only leaves it open for the pack to throw your open criticism of me back in my face in the future.
"Why do you always openly pick me out Ed?"

Out of affection mostly. :)

"Your openly criticism of me only leaves it open for the pack to throw your open criticism of me back in my face in the future."

This is true-ish, and probably frustrating.

Did you see my interesting back up of Muslim unemployment on this thread: http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/News/Question1504318-5.html ?

Maybe you can use that next time that sort of thing comes up? Hopefully this is a useful, if small, olive branch.

Yes but slightly off track to the my original thread's subject matter. :0)
Sorry, it was a long way down, and then I found a rabbithole!

"Well said Ed ! "

mikey sounds like the teachers pet...i remember kids like him at school, always snitching and trying to worm their way into teachers good books at every opportunity....
bazwillrun

To be fair to mikey, he is not alone, there are others on this site that act the same, but I am sure the Ed can see right through them.

Very well said baz. Hope I don't sound like mikey !
