FRENCH Prime Minister Manuel Valls says the country is to shut down certain mosques, cut foreign funding and police the content delivered in sermons in a massive crackdown on Islamic fundamentalism.

Meanwhile, former French president Nicolas Sarkozy has demanded every person suspected of being involved in terrorism be placed under house arrest.

And he said accessing jihadi websites should be made a crime similar to that of paedophiles who view and distribute content online.

France is also considering legislation that will allow it to remove and expel dual national citizens.

Perhaps curtailing the building of more Mosques is a security issue. The existing ones would seem to have become a hotbed of radical indoctrination and terrorist radicalisation which mean valuable resources are tied up monitoring what is going on. Why would the French, or indeed any Country that faces this conundrum encourage even more of the same...

Naomi- although it goes without saying I will add that of course I feel that the strongest possible action should be taken against those who cause or encourage radicalisation and terror and anyone suspected should be put inder much closer surveillance than has been the case.
Sorry Togo only half of my answer got sent for some reason. I'm lumping all terrorist/terrorist organisations bent on causing mayhem to innocent civilians just because they don't follow their own beliefs under one umbrella -IMO they need to be discouraged by any means available..
Perhaps we should stop playing by the rules rsvp. Until the opposition does play by the rules.
Who is the opposition though Togo?
See rspv above^^
Well that's what I said Togo
Of course ff we could always send them whence they came until they are happy to conform to Western values.
I know rsvp. I was agreeing with you whole heartedly.
fiction-factory, //I think the jihadists want to cause division so we should seek ways to get peaceful Muslims to play their part in combatting radicalisation in their communities.//

Jihadists want to cause division? Really? No - they don’t. They want you – and me – and anyone else who they perceive to be enemies of Islam (and that means most of the world) - either battered into submission or dead – preferably dead. As for seeking ways to get what you call ‘peaceful Muslims’ to play their part in combatting radicalisation, how many Muslims did you see marching and ranting in protest because a few cartoons of their prophet were published – and how many did you see marching and ranting in protest because an elderly French priest was brutally slaughtered in his own church? The world – and that includes you – is facing a deadly enemy. Recognise it.
Thanks for that Togo - maybe I read your answer in a different way than it was intended.
Haha rsvp. I have to be a little circumspect or cryptic in "News", some get the hook some don't. (^_*)
Ahhh - the art of diplomacy and I wasn't sharp enough (or indeed sufficiently familiar with the workings of the 'News' thread) :-)
Okay Naomi- I amended the sentence and a word disappeared. I meant to say
"I think the jihadists want US to cause division... "
Feel free to talk down to me again if you wish.

Haha rsvp. The "art" is to be as incisive and dismissive as possible, whilst disguised as confused and innocent of any latent intent. As well you know you naughty tease. :))
PP :o) x
Exactly Togo 19.50.
Can't help being a woman Togo
I think you all deserve a smile :o) x
fiction-factory, //"I think the jihadists want US to cause division... "//

They don’t want us to cause anything. They’re not interested in what we do or what we think. They’re not playing games. They are telling us exactly what their intentions are … they’re pulling no punches …. but how many of us are listening? Very few, because what they’re saying is difficult for us, with our liberal attitudes of ‘live and let live’ to believe. Well, we’d better believe it. We trivialise it at our peril. Understand that their minds don’t work as yours does – and if you think that’s talking down to you, so be it. I’d rather be accused of that than make no attempt to warn you and people who think similarly, all of whom, albeit with the best of intentions, continue to stumble foolishly and blindly on with pipe dreams of some multi-cultural Utopia that can never be. Look around you - look at Europe. For all our efforts to welcome and to extend the hand of friendship and tolerance to what is, to the west, an entirely alien culture, the situation isn’t improving – it’s only getting worse – and that isn’t going to stop. Wake up!
^^ well said!
