Whether or not one agrees with this, the woman should have known the law, just as a bikini wearing Western woman should know an Islamic country's laws.

People are forgetting that the situation is tense in the south of France, France gnerally in fact. Only a few weeks ago a murderer with possible Islamist motives drove a lorry through a crowd of people in Nice. I don't blame the authorities for wanting to minimise overt displays of affiliation to Islam in a French seaside resort at the current time. The...

A thought-provoking article in yesterday’s sun from a French writer who suggests that this was a set up and that those howling disapproval have been ‘sucked in by Islamist propaganda’.

The woman had no bag or towel with her - unusual for someone planning a day at the beach - and more importantly the writer observes that the photographer was at the scene taking pictures before the police arrived … the picture below confirms that….

I have not called anyone anything.
I think you are stirring, looking for trouble, and posting off the topic, and those are against the Site Rules.

It doesn't make much difference to me whether it was set up or not. Either way, the point has been made that France is becoming a more repressive state. Even if it was set up, it is more likely that it was set up by a fan of liberty, equality and fraternity than by an Islamist. In fact, the more I think about it, the more likely it seems that this particular incident was set up to demonstrate the fallacy of France's response to terror attacks.

Is someone seriously suggesting that one or more Muslims arranged for this woman to 'pose' and be photographed while the police lurch into fascist bullying like a bunch of Pavlov's dogs?
That is utterly laughable!

Ellipsis , If you claim it was set up by a proponent of liberty, equality and fraternity Islamists can’t possibly be behind it – they don’t endorse any of those things - but I don’t think anyone is in a position to criticise France’s response to the terrorist attacks it has experienced. France has been at the forefront of these atrocities and it must do as it deems fit.
My previous post was in response to andy-healey.
> France has been at the forefront of these atrocities and it must do as it deems fit.
Agreed, but of course people are at liberty to criticise it, especially people who believe that France is giving up on its core values and proceeding in the wrong direction, even if they agree with the desired destination.

I have just checked the image data on the photos themselves and it shows they come from a variety of sources.
The "main photo" if you ask me is this one:
https:/ /www.th esun.co .uk/wp- content /upload s/2016/ 08/nint chdbpic t000261 7587811 .jpg?w= 960
The image data for this one shows (among other things):
Authors: Vantagenews.com
Camera Model: Canon EOS-1D X Mark II (pro camera, £5000+)
Focal length: 400 mm (quite a long telephoto lens)
Subject distance: 72.7 m (i.e. close, but not very close)
So yes, it would seem to be a set up ...
