and yet you still expect your opinion, the opinion based on little knowledge to be taken seriously. //
Apologies to regulars who have read this before, but I will repeat it for TM1's benefit -
Possessing and expressing an opinion anywhere - including on here - is not dependent on experience and / or knowledge. If it was, it would be experts agreeing with each other all day long, and the site would implode inside a week.
The whole point about a debate site like this, is that people express an opinion, and gain some knowledge which they don't already have. They may, or may not alter their view based on what they read, that is the joy of being here.
Expressing an opinion is not dependent on possession of an appropriate level of background information.
To illustrate, I have never visited Auschwitz, but I do have an opinion on the Final Solution. I have never directed a film, but I posted a view on the new David Brent movie earlier today.
You see my point? You don't have to know anything about anything to be interested enough to have formed a view, and to express it.
The opposite end of the scale is someone who decides they are an 'expert' and constantly scoffs at anyone who does not meet their own predetermined lofty standards - but that comes across as being priggish and pompous and is really best avoided - especially as it usually arrives with no supporting evidence whatsoever.
My knowledge set is popular music - I would smash out of the park anyone and everyone on here on that subject - but I would never not want to discuss it with anyone and everyone, nor would I look down on them because they know less than me.
You don't have to take my opinions seriously - in fact, you don't have to take them at all. But I have a right to express them, and I will, and if you don't want to be involved, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Naomi - //andy-hughes, //I manage to live my daily life unimpeded by any 'dislike' from any Muslims, //
No surprise really. You only know one - and he's the bloke who cuts your hair. //
If you are going to be tediously boring about trotting out this particular nugget of information ad nauseum, please have the courtesy to be correct - the Muslim I know shaves me, he does not cut my hair.

You are getting very tedious you stand there stirring your little pot, all islam is bad, all Muslim are bad, how dare they wear a Burkini, how dare those women become police officers. Please give it a rest surely there must be more in your life than constantly picking on the Muslim that are not blowing up families. That only want to get on with their lives and sit on the bloody beach!!

Ludwig - //// but I would never not want to discuss it with anyone and everyone, nor would I look down on them because they know less than me. //
No but if someone said Phil Collins used to be in the Beatles I'd expect you to point out they were wrong. //
Point out they were wrong - yes.
Point out in such a way that made them feel that they were stupid for knowing less than me (based only on my say-so!_ - No.
That is the difference.
Not knowing things, or being wrong about the things you do know, do not make you stupid, or a bad person, despite the efforts of some on here to make it appear that way.

THE MOTLEY1 - //Has an opinion that matters and cannot shave himself, I can't help but wonder what other restraints are applied to his lifestyle, and why. //
One of the restraints I try to employ is keeping my sense of nasty sarcasm to myself whenever possible.
If you wish to debate, then please do, if you wish to be insulting, then please don't.

Islay,//all islam is bad, all Muslim are bad, how dare they wear a Burkini, how dare those women become police officers. //
I don't know who you're talking to, and I don't know who said all that either. An explanation would be useful - and whilst you're at it, any chance of an answer to my question?

THEMOTLEY1 - //Just an opinion AH, I believe they're allowed //
Of course - but being rude to another AB'er is not expressing a valid opinion, it's just being rude, and it contravenes Site Rules.

Oh God. Please .....not the Site Rules again!
Good grief, opinionated stalwart of AB takes cover behind Site Rules.
Man-up Andy.

Your petty insults don't bother me, but the rules are there to protect some who can and do leave when people are offensive - that is why I am pointing out the Site Rules.
