It is sometimes said on AB, that drivers like this don't always get the their just deserts. But 5 years is more like it.

This case caused a lot of local concern a few weeks away.

5 years no where near enough, minimum 20 years much better.
Mikey > But 5 years is more like it.

I don't think the victim's family would see it that way..
The victim's family would likely want to retaliate rather than see justice.
One must have a differential between calculated murder and reckless or dangerous activity causing death.
OG > The victim's family would likely want to retaliate rather than see justice.

Bit harsh OG.Calculated or not five years for causing a death is not equitable under any circumstances.
Maybe not with time off for whatever, but I still think one has to balance the punishments for various crimes.

My point in raising this was to say that far too many times, we hear of a wrist slap instead of a proper sentence for incidents like this.

It wasn't premeditated murder, and perhaps New Judge can come along and tell us what the maximum sentence might have been.

I, too, would have liked a longer sentence but it does seem a step in the right direction. I notice his 4 year driving ban starts when he is released.
Good that this idiot is in the slammer but I do wish the headline was more accurate. The guy was jailed for causing death by dangerous driving but they must focus on the speed that he reached at some point in the process rather than the actual cause of the crash, inexperience and bad driving.

OK, so no one died, but this is a repeat offender, recently released.
Pathetic sentence, it'll only be a matter of weeks before he re-offends I'll wager.
I think that such drivers should be banned from driving for life.
Should have been a ban for life not 4 years.

TTT....I know the location of the accident very well....indeed, I passed along there on my way to see the EPIC sign on Thursday. I can't imagine getting up to anything like 100 MPH there.

Any driver, let alone one that had only passed his test the day before, would have have great difficulty in keeping control of the car at that speed. The speed was definitely a factor.
yes I would go along with others above causing death should be a life ban.
A life ban in my opinion too, and a longer sentence.
14 years is the maximum sentence
