think she is on a hiding if pursuing racial discrimination as it clearly was not, tribunals act on pure facts not speculation, but as she has only a week of employment with the school unfair dismissal is not an option
Yes her service is well below the threshold for Unfair dismissal - except that the service requirement doesn't apply if it's for reasons things like race, disability, sex- so she could be covered. I'd be surprised if after a week she could prove anything substantial but until the facts come out we would just be speculating.
FF only if it is a clear cut discrimination case ..NOT whistle blowing.can't see a tribunal taking the race stance she was NOT discriminated against at all...
Yes, it depends whether there is more to this than the Mail has given in its scanty report.
I suspect the Mail wasn't too interested in the full facts - it probably just wanted to give the impression she objected to the video because she was a Muslim (and perhaps may sympathise with Al-Qaeda)
Although she was right to state her concerns, I can't see she has a case for unfair dismissal or even
religious discrimination.

Since she was only one week into the job, she would most likely be serving a probationary period.
Khandro - //Could it be that she thought the 9-11 video depicted an atrocity carried out by extremists in the name of her own religion.
Shown those images most children would ask "Why did they do that?" and she would have to answer, - I for one would be interested in what she would say. //

I am sure she would say that her religion is subjected to a tiny minority of terrorists who in no way adhere to the peaceful lives led by its millions of followers.

Personally, if I were a Christian teacher, I would be far more uncomfortable trying to explain away the reasons for the Gulf War!

Yep ... the west should have ignored the pleas of Arab nations when the murderous dictator Saddam Hussein ordered the invasion of Kuwait.
andy: Once again you demonstrate you are in denial;

'Muslims who believe that “foreign Muslims who incite hatred should be … allowed to live in the UK”: 38 percent.
Who agree that “ordinary Muslims … should not do more work with the police to root out extremists from the Muslim community”: 8 percent.
Find it acceptable “for religious or political groups to use violence for political ends”: 4 percent.
Support the July 7 attacks and say more such attacks are justified: 5 percent.'

More statistics for you to dwell on here;

https://muslimstatistics.wordpress.com/2013/11/24/statistics-21-of-british-muslims-believe-suicide-bombings-are-justified/
Results from the United Kingdom Census 2011 giving the UK Muslim population in 2011 as ~2,706,066, ~4.5% of the total population. The vast majority of Muslims in the United Kingdom live in England: 2,660,116 (5.02% of the population).
Do the maths and see how many in numbers that represents. (popuation of the UK ; 64 million)
off point..the case is was she herself discriminated in any way..and she was NOT..this is not a post for yet another muslim rant..but an employment law post !!

Once again you demonstrate your unfounded superior attitude.
The clip is believed to have been shown in relation to pupils studying a poem by Simon Armitage about the 9/11 attacks, entitled Out Of the Blue, which is on the AQA GCSE syllabus.
"Once again you demonstrate your unfounded superior attitude."

Jaw dropping.
Khandro- I have mentioned before that these surveys of Muslims have been shown to be flawed. How does one find 500 representative Muslims given that they aren't registered as such on the electoral roll. Do they do a scientific survey that includes a fair spread of socio economic groups? No - it's far easier and cheaper to go to a town in Birmingham or Bradford and maybe stand outside a mosque or go to the market. I would take these surveys with a very large pinch of salt, although I would agree that there are concerns about how some groups feel they are not part of our society- partly their fault, partly ours.
But I don't see how any of this is relevant to this thread. The Mail and AB posters know that putting the word Muslim in a title will attract the attention of the anti Muslim readers

That reads more like the sort of reasoned observation that belongs on a site like this - where people are simply exchanging views and opinions, and having a discussion, and are not minded to have their opinions and views trashed by those who wish to adopt the higher academic argument territory, with absolutely no grounds to do so, apart from their own rather lofty opinion of themselves.
Daft woman playing the race card when it isn't even a factor. By her own admission she objected to the video being shown to 11-12 year olds and she was fired for dissent on that. looks like she had an attack of £ signs in her eyes for compo over the default card these people always play. She may have a case for unfair dismissal but not due to any race issue.
TTT NOT if she was only employed for a week...and she herself was not discriminated against..

I think that may be something of an over-simplification of the situation.

I certainly agree with her that she had a point to make regarding the unsuitability of the material being shown to children of that age.

As to the issues surrounding her dismissal, she may have a case to bring on the basis that the teacher showing the material has not been sanctioned in any way, but she has been dismissed simply for raising a valid objection.

I think - as is so often the case - there are background circumstances which have not been advised in media reports, which can lead to biased conclusions which may not be valid.

We shall see, and no doubt return when more details are known.
actually I dont think we have enough of the facts being pleaded ....

What would she have said if the class was shown Sex education Lessons? it was the news, children saw it then, it was in the papers, on the 9th of the 11 it was again reported, "ACE" Card again? I expect one objection to my post.
